OR You could use the following

Early H55 input bearing
Shim to match the shoulder on the early input shaft
Later model input shaft with seal surface turned down to early diameter
H42 input retainer housing from a 2F H42

my brain hurts......no wonder people abandon this modification. I have a 5/80 2F. I have a H55F from a 1982 March of 1984 BJ42. I have found the input shaft new OEM :), .....I think.
Now you are talking bearing retainer ( I have no clue) and machining t-cases.. You guys are lapping me while I am still in first gear.
Is there a thread where someone has actually done the swap for the diesel /gas input shaft using an early H55F?
Don't bail on me guys. Some good will come out of this.

Mods can move this to the Tech Forum if you wish.

Can someone tell where I would find an ID code or MFG date code on the Transmission in my photos. Before I order the wrong part. Thanks

I found the mfg. date code. My 1982 H55F w/ TC is actually a March of 1984

Not sure the question of your input shaft bearing retainer was ever answered? The input retainer off you 80 model H42 will work. The one from the 74 H42 to the 9/85 H42 imported to the US will work.
