Hey guys my bypass hose recently perished, and I was changing my gearbox and transfer oil and noticed that they both sit perfectly at the level plug, I was wondering if this is the case is it in my interest to install a new one or just put normal plugs back in the holes.
My thought it when I'm driving how does the bypass hose not over fill my transfer case when I am 4wd and on sharp angles, or is mine pumping oil through and that's why they are remaining level? I've got about 20000km on the oil before I changed it and levels were the same, the hieght difference worries me though about filling up the transfer

I think you are talking about the hose that connects the filler plug at the tcase and the filler plug at the gear box? If that hose was put there is probably because the seal between your tcase and gear box is leaking. This is why one or the other will not overfill. essentially if too much is leaking into the tcase, it flows right back into the gearbox. if you just plug them up and not put the hose back and you are in fact leaking from gearbox to tcase then what is going to happen is your gear box is going to leak all the oil into the tcase and then you will run into problems. In mi opinion you would have to sit there for a long time .. if its even possible to angle it like that to transfer oil from the gear box to tcase just sitting there.

If you are rebuilding t-case or working on your tranny why not get back to stock form with the proper seal in place and be happy with the Mr. T design .?

Sharp angles have never been known to be a problem. As you may know, bypass hoses were often fitted when the seal failed and oil was migrating uphill from the t/case to the g/box. But owners also fitted them as a back up in case the seal failed, so in this case you may not even need it. You could try removing the hose and drive around and check to see if the g/box level is rising.

If you don't have a hose installed and you remove the fill plug on the transmission you have a seal problem if oil comes out of the he hole where the plug was in the transmission case. If you want to buy a stainless steel braided hose I have two sizes that will fit most applications on fj40 and fj60 manual transmissions. PM me if your interested.

We have been discussing this for 15 years or more on this forum , Im well aquainted with the problem. Even if I needed one I will never buy anything off someone who is trying to flog his product on a tech forum.

If you buy my hose it uses an o-ring not a crush washer any more. Be sure to tight snug and 1/3 turn more. Do not over tighten you'll strip the threads on either the case or banjo bolt, as there are not many threads engaged and also its an o-ring not a crush washer. We went to o-rings per vendors direction so you can reuse the seal. A crush washer is limited to a few re-tightens. With the o-ring it can be used many times so long as you don't over tighten the banjo bolt. Even if you change the seals the hose is good insurance per others recommendation on the thread for the bypass hose. Here is the thread talking about the the issue. I've sold over 350 of these since I started making them years ago.
