So, I have a new box in my troopie and I am struggling with a front end leak on the H55. It was a gasser gearbox, and I had the 1HZ input shaft swapped in. After I got everything reinstalled, had a leak on the front end, so not having the time, had Iron Pig drop the gearbox and replace the shaft and bearing retainer seals. The leak has lessened, but it is still there. It is not a static leak, it only leaks when I drive it. So, if I leave it in the garage problem solved:grinpimp:

So, any suggestions from the H55 gurus and the peanut gallery in general?

Thanks for the ideas. The shaft amd breathers should be good, tje input shaft and tranny were brand new and was leaking almost from the get go. A mis-aligned tranny on the bell housing was what I was thinking, but I am soliciting ideas from the pros before I drop the geatbox again:bang:

Appreciate the help.

there are no breathers in a H55, it breathes through the shifter tower.
it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to misalign the tranny to the engine.
dowls in the block to bell housing
friction fit tranny to bell housing
if it is a moving leak then maybe the wrong seal is being used? there are 2 different generations of the H55.

just a suggestion

That was a thought I had also, I compared the part numbers and it looks like it is the same for the new H55 I bought and the seal for a '97 75 series. I'll ask IPOR what seal they used, maybe they had a different/older seal on hand when they dropped my gear box.

Thanks

just a suggestion, not everyone knows that tidbit ... i know i didn't.

I appreciate it, love hunting mystery leaks. However, a quick look at the IPOR invoice and it looks like they used the correct seals. So, back at square one:doh:

It's a nuisance leak, so I am inclined to drive it until it gets worse hoping there isn't some catastrophic failure of the seal:grinpimp:
