Does anyone have any experience with the effects of worn rivets/pins/pivots that the shifter attaches to? I found one reference on an old thread to someone planning on fixing them to improve gear selection, but no follow up.
My h55f gearbox can be reluctant to go into first when stationary, worse when hot. It moves half way then it feels like it's pushing against something solid. Going back to neutral or into 2nd then going again with a faster harder motion mostly fixes it. Changing into 2nd gear when moving also sometimes feels reluctant/unhealthy.
The shifter bushing and seat were reasonably good, but I just had the box rebuilt by a gearbox shop because the input shaft had in/out play, so the bushing and seat are now brand new. No change. I queried the worn pins with the shop but they said that wouldn't be a problem, that the worn bearings were probably the cause. The problem is identical after the box being rebuilt.
As well as the pins being wobbly, the collar on the shifter that engages on them is slightly damaged/bent like someone has tried to pry it out with a screwdriver rather than turn it to disengage from the pins.
I'm planning on fixing the pins using these threaded replacements
Gear Lever Retainer Pin Kit suitable for Landcruiser 40 60 70 80 gearbox housing and it looks like the collar that engages with the pins is available as a stand alone part for the h42 shifter, and I think that it will work/fit identically on my h55f.
I just wanted to know if anyone had experience with the those pins causing problems, because there's heaps of other stuff I need to allocate time and money to fixing on the truck, but this rises up the priority list if it will definitely fix the problem.
Edit: I just noticed the same site sells a kit with the collar/bush/seat for very cheap price. But it's more about time than money, unless I try to drill and tap the holes in situ with rags and grease stuffed down the shifter hole to stop swarf falling in the gearbox
