Hello Forumites,

On a previous post I had discussed installing 16" x 8 GX ( live axle ) rims to my 2004 HZJ79 pick up.

Well I bit the bullet so to speak and I am happy with the result.

They fit with no problems and IMO have a standard yet better appearance than the common white spokers. The rims are slightly heavier and more robust due to their increased thickness.
The offset is more than standard and the tyres stick outside the front fenders by approx one inch. This is not a real problem as this is still inside the protection bars I have fitted. I will be fitting rubber flexy flare to prevent mud/ rock spray in the near future.

The part number is 42611-60200
FZJ105, HZJ105..GX; 16X8JJ,TYPE G
Refer to illustration. $128.36 AUS dollars

The beach shot is taken at Gunn Point near Darwin.

Looks good with those rims. I have used the flexi rubber moulding before, its good stuff.

Is 4wd easy out there? I want to go camping there sometime but just never have. Any fish? Any place to do a beach launch?

Regards

Chris

They really top the ute of mate im def going to hunt a set down soon
are you going to get the centre caps for the rear they look aws to, good stuff mate

Thanks guys,

Chris -Gunn point is very easy 4Wding, , there are a few spots a low tide where you have to cross some creeks but the bottom is very hard. It gets very crowded on the weekends , so it pays to get a good spot early. Alot of larrikins camp there and leave rubbish  . But over all not too bad a spot for so close to Darwin. I have seen boats launched there but it is a very flat beach and slow to get deep.
It is better to go to Leaders creek to launch the boat or go from Buffalo creek. For fishing tips get the Fishing Northern Australia book at newsagents, they also have a web site www.fishingterritory.com (FFF fish finder forum ) there is a great bunch of guys on there theat I learnt a heap from, spots and techniques.

Clint -I dont think I will get the dust caps on as I am likely to lose them with the corrugations up this way, they do look good though ! :D

I am really happy with the rims, I havent used the Wrangler AT's before and so far they have been a good tyre, quiet and good handling on dirt or the black top :)

Cheers

Thanks for the info on Gunn Point. I use Leaders and Buff creek a bit (live just up the road) and am on the forum as cjgp,

I was just interested, I would like to camp and fish from somewhere sometime.

See you bout, I will watch for your rims

Yeah those rims look great on the 79, good work mate.

Also I quite like those rims on that BJ74.

Wouldn't work on a 40/45 though

One day I'll cruise the top end in my troopy...........

you mean the 105 rims wont fit or the 80 series, is it something with the offset on the 80 seris rim??

Or maybe you can put 105 series diff under your 4x series mate;)

Those 80 series rims are a great strong 6 stud rim and should fit the 40, I was looking for a set for my 45, most are hard to find, you can still get them from toyota or off ebay second hand.:D

Yo Clint, that 45 looks sweet! You Know who's rig that is?

What I meant about the rims not working on a 4x series is that I didn't think that they would look right on one. My opinion has been swayed now! Although if they were to go on a stock 4x series I still think they'd take a bit of getting used to, aesthetically speaking.

But this is 7x series tech forum, lets not get too distracted!
