Primary reason I bought one, for that and dirty traction boards or jerry cans.
Just a heads up, Jake (WTITW) some time ago asked if one of those trash-a-roo's could go on the back swing-out door without any spare, ladder, just hanging off the rear door.
I took mine and did just that as an example. I opened the rear window, clipped and tightened the straps on the inside, around the door, shut the rear window and rear door. It worked fine! So if you find yourself with too many bolt's on's to your latter and still want a trash-a-roo, you can put one on the other side of your door. Just don't cover your license plate!

I have an old duffel bag right now. It works great, although I do get a lot of concerned people waving me down about a bag hanging out of my vehicle. Hanging a bag this way does allow for dust to get in the vehicle at the rear window where the straps push down the weather stripping. I also had to buy a roll of nylon strap to extend the straps since the straps weren’t long enough.

Taking all the trash home from the cabin. It fits a lot!

I know these vehicles are meant to be used, but how much paint rubbing/scratching is caused by the bag?
This is why I got a half ladder. Since I dont plan on getting a swing out I do plan on buying one of their full ladders and only installing it when needed since it blocks the window from opening.

Giving me lots of space to mount things that dont compromise aerodynamics

I’ll have to check. The bag does collect a lot of dust, but most the time it isn’t loaded to the max. Usually slight amounts of garbage while on the trail. It doesn’t flap in the wind or anything, but I’m sure there is some rubbing.

I use a lot of 550 paracord for projects and I have found that it is super handy for "smashing" into doors, window seals, etc to make a loop, but still smashes flat enough to minimize water or dust ingress. You could cut a few pieces and tie them into loops and hang those in the rear window and then clip the bag onto them.
