Hey guys, I just bought a 2014 GX460 at a dealer in North Carolina with the steering wheel data cable disconnected. I drove from Minnesota to pickup the car. Upon arrival, the dealer said there was a problem with the airbag and they were not able to get it fixed that day. Also, they told me the Lexus dealer did not reconnect the data cable for the steering wheel buttons when they were inspecting the airbag. I'd have to stay over night to get the issues fixed but I could not stay over night since I had to return home for work. I took the car anyway with some negotiations.

When I turn the steering wheel, I can hear the data cable flopping around. How do I go about reconnecting the cable and do it safely? Also, I know some people have expressed caution to not accidentally deploy/explode the airbag while working on the steering wheel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

I'm guessing (hoping) that all they did was leave the spiral cable, aka clock spring disconnected - that's likely the data cable you referred to. This video is of a Toyota Matrix, but the steps are identical to get to the cable, except for whereas the Matrix has exposed Torx screws on the sides of the steering wheel, the GX has two small plastic covers that pop off.

I replaced the spiral cable three times on my old LX and could do it in my sleep - PM me if you have any questions!
