Omg you have Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers?

Been owned by them for more than 30 years before they were AKC recognized.

My first one not long before he passed over the Rainbow bridge

His son Jack who is now 4 bringing me a grouse I shot just before he turned one, 4 second clip with the phone

Being high energy and working dogs they keep me moving and that isn't a bad thing. Although some days I wonder but wouldn't have it any other way!

I have had Huskies for over 20 years now. And I am the same way.

I have been fortunate to be around a few Tollers and they are amazing animals.

well... ahem... this one is a hit to the pride. a few weeks back i was driving to VT in a snow storm and lost it on the highway. it went from kinda visible pavement to a few inches stacked up in a flash and i was going a hair quicker than i should have been. the stock deulers in the rear were on the edge of needing replacement. went over a bridge connection bump. it was all just enough of a combination to send the rear going out to my left and never to return. looking back, i should have had CDL on, that might have given me the front wheel power to save it. the rear kept rotating clockwise as i drifted off to the right side of the road, went off sideways with the rear facing in the direction of travel, and must have done some pretty sweet trick of a roll and spin (mctwist? misty flip?) because I rolled it and ended up with the nose facing in the direction of travel again. i was the only one involved.

i got very lucky and walked away with minor bruising. the truck took it like a champ. all of the side panels look basically untouched. i'm sure the snow softened the blow. the roof caved where it meets the windshield through about half way down the roof, but only down the middle. the "frame" where the doors are didn't collapse much. no windows smashed, though due to the roof cave the sunroof is propped open. it scooped a significant amount of snow into the cabin during the roll.

just got the official word that they are totaling it. i am looking to get another GX, especially due to the way it protected me in that. in the market for moving up to a 2022 i think.

given i know more about the truck i'm looking for certain features, but i want to poll here: what would be your must have or must avoid features if you were to buy another 2021+ GX?

right now i'm trying to get a blackline, would be great to have Mark Levinson, and the 2022 gives the carplay. i like the bench seat versus captain's chairs. staying away from air bags.

what's something i should really try to find as an option?
In short: there are no features on a GX I consider to be worthless, unless you're hard of hearing and can care less about having a find audio system.
Note: I'm not talking about all the stupid "accessories" available like protective films, chrome this or that, roadside kit, and so on.
For myself, I want ALL the features, hence I've added some to my own vehicle that didn't come with it, e.g.: MT, front and rear lockers, etc.
We love the stereo system, heated seats and steering wheel, 3 climate zones, all of it!

I did specifically look for a vehicle with protective film, to reduce some of the pinstripes

I have discovered that if you know the loose surface an rx350h will slide very consistently in sport mode with traction control turned off. Just a touch of lift on the throttle and it drifts quite cleanly. All that weight down low helps a lot.

Cheap 25' air hoses are on sale at eastwood, ordered 6 of them for 63$ out the door with tax and $23 in shipping.

Got a flat in the 2025 RX350H loaner. They forgot to put the locking lugnut socket in it. So waiting for them to deliver it from Fredrick Colorado to Cheyenne wyoming.

One more reason for me to invest in a Coats 1300 Balancer and CWA 6500 to keep em wearing straight. It's the last bit of tasks I leave to other's hands. Sorry this happened, dealer should collect the loaner and provide like replacement.

I'm lucky mine were just damaged. The last time I took the GX in for a balance, the wrench roaches torqued the lug nuts to 94 ftlbs...so my locking lugs and lock were no more. Extracting those was fun. 🥳

6 standard nuts per corner is far more convenient anyway. Sad that lots of places don't enforce their own standards of quality or conduct. I wanted to learn all I could and have the customers eager to come back when I was starting out.

That's what ended up happening.

All still fairly new to me, only the 2nd time since the 90s I have paid for someone to do repairs to my car. Otherwise I had only paid for alignments and tire installs and maybe 5-10% of my oil changes.

The last time in the 90s i had paid for work I had to steal car my back. If was a total fiasco, thank God I had been a parts gopher for a couple of guys who raced tuff truck.

That sucks. Hopefully you'll have yours back soon.

We have dealer serviced the last two (wife's) cars (2017 WRX L and 2023 Legacy S) under a maintenance plan. It (with extended warranty) have saved us some money and we've been lucky so far. Really helped when trading the WRX. Subaru was sending us guaranteed offers almost $10k over what most dealers were offering for trade.

I like my cars to be my problem. Still hate spending money on the unplanned...

If i am going to keep working in my own vehicles I need a shop with a lift. My arthritis is at the point that I really need that to make things easier. Plus all of the lifts and such.

I feel like 94 ft/lbs should be in the margin of error to not ruin any lug nuts, locking or otherwise, on a vehicle where the torque spec is 83 ft/lbs.

That's a big reason why I moved a year ago... now have a 30x40 shop and I had a used 9000 pound 2-post lift installed. SO much nicer than laying on the ground, worth every penny.

To quote Borat,
"Very Nice!"

94 is what the service ticket says the wrench was set to...I don't think they stopped at the audible click. The male feature of the locknut tool looked a smear. I still have them bagged up somewhere. I'll add pics if I find them.

Admittedly not the worst I've encountered but still a PIA.

Also agree they are not paid enough for that responsibility. Shops were only allowed to bill $6.25 labor to perform a state vehicle inspection in MO (around 1997).

Whether you are flipping burgers or fixing cars, some customers appreciate it when you give a s**t about the quality of service you deliver.

That or they think they have a calibrated finger. Met a lot of dipshits with impacts doing Construction and fabrication for 20 years.

I will even admit to forgetting to set my torque wrench back to zero and uncalibrating it.

They frankly don't pay those folks enough for how important tires are for vehicle handling, performance, and safety.

About the only thing I dig out the torque wrench for is spark plugs. Not saying that is the best way to do things, but I have pretty good mechanics empathy and experience.

I had a high school shop teacher who said if you don't have a torque wrench, bolts can be classified as either one "grunt" or two. Lug nuts are two grunts.

I was like that until i did ball joints, then promptly did ball joints again. 😂

Engineroom and fireroom of ships have everything from 1/4x20 up to several inches in size. The 9/16" is the 10mm of the Toyota world. 600 psi flanges and equipment is supposed to be torqued to 750 lbs. 1200 psi is 1500 pounds. Couldn't fit a torque wrench in on most of the bolt heads due to space constraints everything is squeezed in too tight. I had to take a torch to many a combination wrench and cut the open end off to make them fit. But most of the time was using a slugging wrench

HX400B.jpg

Never were a Snap On like that they were made by the cheapest bidder. You wail on them with a 20 pound sledge hammer. Nut sack twitches once it is good enough for 600 pound systems. Two twitches for 1200 PSI systems. And if you aren't careful and get 3 you are having a hernia operation. Not even sure how many hernia operations I've had. Do know that my first one was changing out the clutch and throw out bearing on my FJ55 many years ago. Found out another reason why they earned the name Iron Pig and where a lot of the weight came from.

Up until a few years ago always did everything except for tires myself. But have reached the point in my life that I don't want to nor do I have to. And finally realized there is no sense in being the richest man buried in the graveyard. Lucky I found a small shop near me that I trust.

That said last fall I took the Polaris Ranger in for an oil change and lube and they charged me almost $250. About time to do it again so need to run my old oil containers 8 pound kegs of Clays Gunpowder into town to empty them

50967219591_7825da9aa6_b.jpg

And start filling them up again. I'm not paying no $250 for an oil change I don't care if they use a torque wrench or not. As I typed this got wondering if my shop would do it for me at their standard rate of $75 I bet they will.

Keyed locking lug nuts are one of the first things I replace on a vehicle. I hate them.
