Had a cross-threaded front skid plate bolt. Cleaned up the hole with a tap and new hardware threads in just fine without the skid, but somehow once I have the skid there that bolt just won't torque into the hole. This is an annoying problem. I think I may need to lead with the problem-bolt and then add the other 3 since those never have issues.

FYI, if the 460 is like a 470 the front skid bolts are a pathetic M6X1.00 (10 mm head) and will strip again if you re-tap them. I drilled out all of mine and re-tapped them to M8X1.25 (which is much stronger - 12 mm or 13 mm head if using non-OEM hardware) and have had no issues since. The remaining rear skid bolts are all M8x1.25 anyway.

I’ve seen the little welded on nuts pop off before from overzealous tightening with an impact. I always run a tap with some oil in those when I drop the skid helps keep them fresh because there’s always dirt and such floating around in there too. Even drill out the skid mounting holes to give you some leeway, I like when I can finger tighten all the bolts first. I’ve seen some manufacturers call for an order of what bolts to put in first to help with fitment.
My buddy has a set on his 4Runner that he does a lot of crazy stuff in and he loves them. I almost got a set of the 34x10.5s but went with the rt trails in 285/70
Then you might need to drill and tap to a M10x1.25
. I did that on a Subaru after stripping the M8x1.25s off. For my GX I added a Fumoto drain valve and now very seldomly have to pull the skidplates.
Good advice and it feels like this might be the case. I can thread the nut hand tight but once the skid is on, it feels like it the bolt starts to get tight and then slips with the ratchet. This seems like an annoying problem to fix.

Anyone have anti-slip or grip tape on their rock sliders, and if so which product / do you like it?
No, I spray my sliders with rattle can bed liner which offers decent traction, though not as grippy as grip tape.
Same, raptor lined mine and I can attest it works similar to grip tape. Also resistant to rock chips, but you will need to yearly touch up. Originally did 3 coats of rustoleum and 3-4 coats of raptor liner.

Purly from a product stand point 3m stairtreat tape would probably be best. However I think its probably going to have to be replaced frequently due to the edges lifting.

Could you make a collar to hold the ends so it lifts less, just having something holding the corners could help a lot

I believe Mcmaster has plastic hose clamps as well. In black.
