Hello all. I've searched but have not found what I need, so if this is answered some place, my apologies in advance. I am looking at some side armor/PPF for my 2021 GX. I've been doing some research on the best ,yet least expensive paint protection I can find. I found this company called Busch Wrapz in AU, that offer DIY kits at a reasonable price, but its only for the Prado 150 series, does anyone know if the panels are the same size for a GX 460? Also I reached out to GOAT Armor but they could not provide a timeline of if/when they might provide a kit for the GX. What is everyone using...Car wrap? I appreciate your responses!

Is this "side armor" to save the paint from parking lot dings or trail rash?
I believe the only difference with the Prado may be the front grill, and if that's the case, then the front of the fenders and hood may be affected, also maybe the tail light configuration. And I'm guessing that the Prado's don't come with the side door cladding that's on our Lexus'. You'll have to look at some OUS (outside U.S.) Toyota brochures to see what the new 2021 Prado's look like.
So, in short yeah, I guess the Busch Wrapz would work, but you may be doing some trimming.
But like I said, check the OUS brochures and see how closely they look like yours.

I know it's not a defined answer, but it is pointing in a direction. :meh:

Yes it would be for trail rash mostly. I would prefer to have the GOAT Armor, its pretty cool and removable but no telling if they will invest to support the GXs. Thanks for the advice!

Never seen/heard of this product before, this looks really awesome!!
My only issues are:
  • Only one color: black
  • We have to remove the door molding on our U.S. models.
Otherwise this would be awesome for protection AND even a color change if they offered colors. It looks like all that one would have to do would be vinyl the hood, A pillars, door handles, mirrors and roof, assuming you already had steel bumpers and sliders.

Thanks, I've seen this before on Ronny Dahl's Hilux. Still the same concern, does the Prado 150 and GX have the same size panels/doors? I'll reach out to them and see what they say and post their response.

My best guess is that they are the same, considering that just last month one of our forum member here in the U.S. just purchased a Prado rear door with the built in tire carrier. He said that it was a perfect fit. I think the only issue was the interior trim color. So if the rear swing-out door is exactly the same I'd bet the other doors would be also, just without the plastic cladding.

I heard back fro

Update: I reached out and they are unsure so can't recommend. If money was no issue I would buy a set to test, and post to the group, but that's not the case. I think I may just end up trying the BushWrapz since I can cut if something is off and it won't break the bank.

They couldn't source black hardware?

Pretty cool Prado with that Rino Hide armor. I wouldn't want those mounts taped to my vehicle all the time, but some may not care. Something like that with magnets would be sweet.

Someone on a Tacoma forum used protective tape that painters put on floors. It looked like ass, and he was ridiculed for it.

But it worked.

Honestly, I wouldn't be against it as a temporary install to save from pinstripes on a weekend trip. If it doesn't mess up the paint, why not?

Trail pin-striping are badges of honor. Show's you been there and earned your stripes. 👍
Although I draw the line buckling body panels. But trail pin-striping I don't mind and as long as it doesn't gouge the paint.
Also don't mind dinging my aftermarket metal bumpers and rims either. (note: dinging, not tearing up or crumpling)
Otherwise you just look like a mall cruiser. Albeit, some people like it that way. No worries, it's all good! As long as you enjoy it! :meh:

As a counter, if you just bought something brand-new in perfect condition, do you really want to start putting your "badges of honor" on it right away? It's nice having new, shiny things sometimes. I wouldn't mind keeping it that way for as long as reasonably possible without spending $5k on PPF.

Agreed. Hard to scratch up a new vehicle, unless you're stupid rich and can afford disposable cars and trucks. (note: I'm not one of those!)
The only reason I purchased a 2013 several that was years old was that at the time of purchase (several years ago) there were not any front bumpers for 2014+ GX's, only for 2010 - 2013 models. So having a used GX, albeit a very clean, low mileage one, I didn't feel so bad when I received my first stripes especially considering I didn't spend $60,000+ on it!

My issue with the rhino hide, even if it did fit w/ the side molding is the magnets 3m taped to the car. It looks like the car would have been plugged into the Matrix.

UPDATE: I recently installed the Bushwrapz Prado 150 kit on my new GX. Everything was spot on (front/rear doors and the rear fender). However the front fenders did not match around the headlights and it appears the prado front fender might stick out a little more.

I noticed that the Prado and GX have different front bumper contours, even though at a glance they look similar. I'll did up the pictures that showed it.

Check out the protrusion outside the headlights, and the fog light placement relative to side edge of the hood and parking sensor. I was originally hoping this Acay-x bumper would fit, but after looking closer it, the differences are not small.
