Is there a gutter mount awning that would work on a 80? I see these things on VW camper vans. I may buy a roof rack but it would only be 1/2 size, so a full size rack mounted awning may not work. Any suggestions?

Several of the rooftop tent mfgrs make these... Autohome, Hannibal, etc.

check out www.newcruiser.ca they had a good awning. basically uses sailboat technology-- you get the awning built with a cord sewn into one (or two) ends. Then you buy a strip of aluminum that has a channel, the corded awning slides into the channel. Super simple, works well, and you can use various awnings according to your needs.

If you build a full length rack, you could use an awning like I have on my pop up camper. Sets up and takes down easily and quickly. Price is very reasonable.

Check these out. They're around $200 or $250... http://www.shadyboy.com/vans/

Never seen one in person but they seem suitable for our applications as well.

That is very cool. I'll call them and when I get info I'll post it. Thanks BMAN. That's what I'm looking for!

I sent an email enquiry. Let us know if you get anything first.

I could not find the awning? and went thru the whole website as far as I could tell... cool rig.

I'd like to see how that shadyboy mounts to the vehicle?
The 9ft umbrella under the RV sect is pretty cool too.

This just in:

Dear Brandon,

The Base Price for an awning is $260.00+$39.00 for S&H. The colors are
Burgundy, Light Blue, Dark Blue and Silver ( the silver is a reflective
material to keep you cooler and an additional charge of $12.00 is added for
this color). The optional poles for windy conditions cost $20.00 extra and
the stainless steel brackets are standard.

To order an awning fax us at (509) 472-8666 your Visa or Master
card number, full name as it appears on your card, exp. date, color choice,
billing address of the card and address of where you would like us to send
your awning.

Thank you,

sorry about the newcruiser link not having awning info-- I haven't actually looked at the site much, had the pleasure of meeting the folks when they were down here in Costa Rica. cool truck. Odd that it ended up *heavier* than a stock rig despite being aluminum. but cool anyway.

Shady Boy Awning

I finally pulled the trigger and decided to buy a shady boy awning. Our needs were for something relatively small, easy to set up and easy to store. The shady boy seems to have met those criteria.

We uesd it last weekend for the first time up at Pilot Rock after a little offroading up 2N17X : ) I purposely set it up facing the breeze which was 5-10mph. With the additional awning poles it is suprisingly stable in the wind. I'm probably going to make some additional guy lines that will make the awning more stable.

I'm planning on making another set of mounts so the awning could be mounted to the rear of the rack and be opened up over the tailgate.

Here are some of the pics:

Figures, only David, would have this accessory. That thing is pretty sweet and I'm talking about the awning.

looks great. wonder if it would attach some way to standard Yakima towers and crossbars? that's the only thing keeping me from one.

can you take a picture of the mounting to get an idea? thanks.

Sethos - Thanks for posting the pics...I'll take some closeups of the mount.

I would think something could be rigged up for a Yakima system.

BTW...Victor wish you could have made it...one day you will get your truck dirty again.

cheers

The first time took a while...now I've got it down to about 5 minutes for set up and take down.
