Hi guys,

I'm now using my Hj75 troopy with a 2H motor and 235/85 BFT AT's ... she pulls away ok but once on the highway struggles to keep at 100 kph .. Its had a full service and filter change.

My question is, how do you advance the fuel pump delivery and how do you know its at its optimum. any pointers to "how-to's" very welcome..

Brakes are no-longer binding !!!

Cheers
Matt

Owned 2 1/2 years driven 400 kms (Belgium Paperwork!!!)

what is the compression?
is the clutch slipping at all?

i would check these before playing with the pump settings...

Can you get the rpms up to 4170 in neutral?

See pages EM26-27 of the FSM to adjust max speed and pages EM 23 for injection timing.

Other things like valve adjustment and injector nozzles need to be correctly adjusted before you go any further.

Many thanks for the quick feedback..

I’m sure the clutch doesn’t slip … I need to do the maximum rev test straight from work, really don’t need to piss off the neighbours J

I plan on using a diesel injector cleaning product on the next tank, as we leave on holiday next Friday and no real time for pulling the injectors etc… Now on a positive note, even after standing a few months, she easily starts with a hint of blue smoke that clears in seconds…

Still hoping for a easy fix !!

Cheers
Matt

to test for clutch slippage is not 1st gear and launch
to properly test for slippage:
put front tire up against rock, curb or anything that will prevent forward movement.
now put in 4th gear
do not apply fuel
let clutch out slowly, gradually, not "popped".
if clutch is good the engine will stall
if the clutch is on its way out the engine will keep running

only do this for a few seconds.

i have seen clutches slip in 4th and 5th but hold fine in 1st through 3rd.

i had a buddy that drove from edmonton to Calgary (300 km) in his BJ42, 1st worked fine but when in 4th, it would slip. the way he knew was the lost of top end and fuel economy.

just a suggestion.

smart

Dang, there are some smart folks on this forum. Is that 4th gear test method in a lost manual somewhere? Just curious, was that method by trial and error?:)

The method was discovered by accident and probably involved alcohol.:D
You could almost hear the phrase...."dude watch this." :)

it was a "damn, there is something wrong, how can i test for this"
go to bed, 3 AM and the thought hit me. tried it in the morning and bingo, diagnosed.

no manual, when i die, these tricks will die with me ... unless i post them up here.

You sure you did not wake up at 3 AM just to go pee.:) It affects a lot of older people.

Do us a favor and write down that "gee wiz" stuff down before you croak and make sure your wife knows where you put it. :D
