I installed an FJ60 distributor in the 2F in my '76 FJ60, and have another set aside for the '76 2F in my '71 FJ40. The outer vacuum port on both will be capped because neither of the FJ40s has a high altitude compensation (HAC) system. Given that the FJ60 advancer diaphragms can fail, new advancers are NLA, and good used ones are becoming scarce, it seems like a waste to continue to use these in Land Cruisers that don't need them. I'd rather see them made available for other Land Cruisers that still have HAC - late FJ40s and FJ60s. I wanted to see if there might be any interest in a new, OEM replacement single port advancer for non-HAC applications using late FJ40/FJ60 distributors. Based on some Internet research and bench work over the last couple of days I may have found an economical and easy to install retrofit using new OEM advancers used on other Toyota (non-Land Cruiser) distributors. Would it be worth my time to pursue this further?

UPDATE:

I was able to identify a suitable single port NipponDenso advancer for this application. The vacuum advance curve is very similar to the curve for the 08/76 through 09/77 advancers, and advance begins at 3.94" Hg (100mm Hg), the same as the NLA 2F advancer (Part Number 19220-61020). The vacuum advance upper stop limit can be set by adjusting the position of the two locking nuts on the actuator rod. I've modified two FJ60 distributors so far, one for my '76 FJ40 and another for a fellow MUD member's '77 FJ40. Both have been installed and work great. I've attached two photos of the distributor that's currently installed in my '76 FJ40 (note that I replaced the original signal generator with a new early '80s Cressida unit). Later today I'll modify another FJ60 distributor for the '76 2F in my '71 FJ40.

BTW, the same advancer can be used in the 01/75 through 08/76 2F distributors to convert them from vacuum retard to vacuum advance, and to replace failed advancers in the 08/76 through 09/77 2F distributors.

That particular advancer won't fit into the '81 through '87 US market big cap distributor housing, the diameter of the advancer body where it goes into the housing is 17mm. The hole in the big cap distributor housing is only 15mm, and there's not enough "meat" to drill it out larger.

BTW, I've sold about 45 new NipponDenso single diaphragm advancers since I started this thread, each of them has required some amount of modification seeing as how none are from F, 2F, or 3F engines (but they've all been from Toyotas, including some from forklifts). I appreciate all of the MUD member's orders for these in response to my For Sale postings and via word of mouth :-).

PM then? I want one. Do you need to mod the dizzy, or only mod the advancer before you send it out?

I just have to modify the advancer - new bracket and modified actuator rod. I'm selling them for $75 shipped.
