Well, I called and spoke to LT. He got a good laugh when I told him "Delancy Sent Me". ;)

He said he doesn't have plans to make tube bumpers for the 80 at this point, as he's not sure there is enough interest from 80's owners to justify the R&D costs. He said he normally points people to the 4x4 Labs bumper, since most 80's owners seem to prefer plate bumpers (especially for rear bumpers).

If you wanted to see what MT rear bumper concept would look like, you could look at the FJC rear bumpers on his site, as that is likely the basic design he would go with.

He did note that if he had enough interest, he might start making them, but I don't know if three or four bumper confirmed orders would qualify as "enough interest".

For now, no rear bumper from MT is included in this group buy.

Id be all over a rear MT bumper. Give it a swing out and hitch that can tow/retain the stock hitch and Im there.

Simple protection and probably lighter than the other options.

Decent rear protection at a price similar to how their front is priced I would think would have a lot of interest.

Call LT and tell him.....but a swing out may nix his interest in fabbing.

This time, tell him "Asshat" sent you.

Considering it took a year and a half on the FJC bumper, I'm not holding my breath on proudly being an MT fanboy with a rear.

Ain't got time for that.

We're becoming a neglected platform.......

I think Delancy is trying to get back at me for all the bantering :flipoff2:

If we were to even consider a rear tube bumper it wouldn't be a swing out, by the time you get everything reinforced it would cost just as much as a shell bumper.

No chance. I'm trying to help y'all out by developing a demand for a potential product offering, is all. :flipoff2:

Ok. I'm in.

When's it shipping?

Well crap lol. I figured that would be an issue.

My spare doesn't fit under the truck well enough to wheel with it there.

Those FJC tube bumpers look solid and LT was saying he's dropped their test rig on it and it held up well. Much like the front, I like the idea of strong, yet lightweight armor on the back, but I want a better place to keep my spare and a swing out is a must. Something to save for I guess.

As for the group buy on fronts, it looks like 2-3 people are interested, plus me. I'd like to get 6-7 people (total) lined up in case someone can't do it when the time comes to call in the order(s).

A question came up about shipping. You can get an estimate from the website by putting a bumper in your cart and then going to the checkout section. It will provide estimates based on Residential or Commerical addresses (I think a Forklift and / or Loading Dock will be required to qualify as "Commercial" in this instance).

If anyone in the SF Bay Area is interested, we could try combine our orders onto one pallet and combine shipping. Some of the charge is based on weight (so no savings) but another portion is based on number of places they need to pick up and drop off. I'd guess we'd cut our individual shipping costs some by having it all go to one spot.

Let me know if anyone else is interested. I'd love to get this order buttoned up by the first week of June.

OK, so I've got four people on board (including me).

Well, one of the five needed to back out due to some unforseen issues and we're back at four people.

Add me to the list for front bumper, short stinger.

My unsolicited two cents.

The taller stinger is pretty useful. From the drivers seat, can see enough of the top tube to tell where the front is, which helps when wheeling Braille.

Very valid point. Had one been avail at the instant I decided to buy one I would have gone tall. I love mine, but.....

Exactly why I've been figuring to go tall.

On the down side I see it sticking out further when driving in town and needing to park (esp. parallel).

Since mine isn't a DD, tall it will be.

when is the order going in?

Dawg,

Just sent you a PM.

I heard back from the fifth person today and will be trying to get the order(s) placed by tomorrow or Wednesday.

If you want in, PM me with your contact info ASAP and I'll see if we can add you on.

Steve

PM's sent to all who expressed interest (Dawg included).

Just in case you check here before you check you PM's, please call by Thursday to place your order.

I spoke with LT and he asked that contact him at 800-839-0684, Option 1 for Sales. Be sure to mention the group buy I put together to get your discount.

If anyone else has been sitting on the fence and has decided to jump in, I expect LT will allow you to get in on this deal if you call by 6/13 and mention the group buy (I can't promise, but he seemed open to selling more).

Thanks for your interest and for helping to make this happen. Definately a Win Win Win (you, me and MT).

Just a heads up for anyone trying to get a hold of me today I am working on a customer's 4Runner from Canada so I will get back to you as soon as I'm done with the installation. I am the only one answering phones right now since we are short staffed.

Bumper Delivered - With Pix

I wanted to close the loop on this thread.

I haven't heard back from any of the others who got in on this deal, but I'm pretty pleased with how it worked out.

I spoke with LT on the phone at length and he was able to help me get everything set up. While I was at it, I got an Engo winch from him as well.

The winch came direct from Engo (across the river from MT in Vancouver, WA) on a FedEx truck and beat the bumper by a day or two. The bumper came down on a pallet and got delivered yesterday.

I ran into some struggles getting the winch on there (well, more accurately, the solinoid) and I'm asking some questions about it in the Winching forum, but the bumper was EASY to install. I'm pretty sure it took me less than 30 minutes to get the old bumper off and the new one on and all snugged up (without the winch).

I wanted to post a few pictures to 'show off' how the GB worked out.

A big thanks to LT and all the others who participated in making this work. Hopefully everyone is happy with the results.

Steve
