As I was looking under my 100 earlier today I remembered that ground clearance is supposed to be around 9 inches. I pulled out a ruler and the lowest point on the front is 6 inches. It is the lower part of the independent suspension. Do they measure from the center when they get the factory numbers? The center was about correct with the factory specs. I would assume the part I measured would clear most things because it is so close to the wheel. Makes me wonder about all factory clearance numbers ??? For the 80s and earlier would they measure from the bottom of the diff in the axels?

Typically it's measured under the diff.

Even on an IFS?

Matt:

I'd have to go and look at an IFS setup, but is the lowest part right at the wheel? If so, the concept is that, while this may be the lowest point, you would actually be placing the tire on top of the obstacle (eg rock) and the wheel would travel over it. The Diff is low point and it doesn't move.

Cheers, Hugh
