Greyhound = cheap shipping

Just wanted to let eveybody know or remind you all that greyhound is cheap to ship large or heavy items. Pack / box it and take it to the nearest greyhound terminal. they ship to nearest terminal where it needs to go and call for pickup. I just shipped rear seats - box ended up weighing 70+ pounds and was about 4 feet long by 2 feet by 2 feet. So Cal to Ohio was about 70 bucks, UPS ground was more than double! you can get rates at the greyhound website! I don't know about your nearest teminal, but take a buddy with you for backup if needed depending on location

Greyhound is one the cheapest ways to ship, however your package is going to make about 15 stops across country...so you better pack it very well. It can take quite a bit longer than any other ways of shipping and as far as I know, there is no insurance (not sure about that one). If you are a student, you get a 50% discount on shipping (I think it may be limited to twice a year). Basically you need to sign up on there website as a student, pay $20 to become a "student member" and then show a student id when you get down to station and you are ready to ship.

You are correct about this being a good tool for packing big, heavy things that are going across the country. Make sure you pack it well.

Another good way to ship is via DHL. They are just as cheap as Greyhound and cheaper than UPS, Fedx and USPS. You can also sign up on their website for an account and you will get 10% every shipment that you make. On top of that, you can print out your lables and drop off your packages at a DHL shipping store.
For a 60lb box that is 12x12x54 from Georgia to Ca. costs about $40 or $50 to send.

DHL is really cheap. Greyhound is a little cheaper, but DHL does afford the luxury of ease of use and is quicker than greyhound.

I recently created a DHL account to check out rates. For large items they are no better than UPS or Fedex. A 60 series front fender shipped anywhere by these is over $100. Greyhound is less than half that. Greyhound is a pain partly because not everyone has easy access to a terminal to drop off .

only prob i have found with greyhound is the 100lb weight limit... too bad, I was hoping to ship an nv4500 with them... poop

This is an old thread but worth a bump. I shipped two 40 doors and a windshield frame from Boise, ID to the SF Bay Area on Greyhound under $125. Here in two days. Yes, it has to be packed well and Mudship is cheaper but some locations take up to 150 lbs. and when you're jonesing for that new toy it gets the job done. That was my first experience shipping Greyhound and it worked well.

I'm still waiting for a part I bought in early October. It's scheduled to make it here later this month. Not bagging on the seller, I suggested Mudship as I noticed he had stuff already coming down in March.

Greyhound = cheap shipping, but just don't ride the bus personally. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google "greyhound murder winnipeg".

I just shipped two fj40 doors on greyhound for $130 or so from VA to CA
I just shipped a complete fj40 OEM power steering with cooler, steering shaft, pump, box, etc...in three boxes for $150 VA to CA

not necessarily cheap, but probably cheaper than some of the other options...

I shipped seats from MA to NJ which would have been $400 for FedEx. $60 for Greyhound. The terminal is a PITA and the agents have no idea how to do it generally but I'll put up with that crap to save a ton of $$$. Never had anything damaged or lost

I've recently shipped an entire 80 series front fender (inner, outer and flare) and it ran about $60 to ship from SoCal to Washington. Got dented 'en route and I packaged the heck out of it.

Sent the rear upper hatch from the same rig to Oregon and packed the snot out of it. One corner got dented on that one. It cost about $80.

Moral of the story, wrap everything very well, then wrap it again....especially corners. They did travel very quickly - about 24 hours for each one. Too bad the nearest station is a two-hour round-trip.

I'd assume that they'd need to be done separately, but am not sure.

my rear seats cost 33/ seats via ups. howver for large items grayhound may be worth it.
