My truck finally arrived last night. She has been deemed "Grendel"...monster from Beowulf who ripped people apart and ate them. It is Nice...hadn't driven it 3 miles before pulling into the driveway with someone following me. He offered to buy it.

Went inside and took a shower before taking her for maiden voyage to Brewery...no start. A quick Jump later and engine turned right over. Battery must have sat to log while parked in PO's garage.

Two quick questions...make that 3.
1. What is the electronic beep-beep-beep noise whenever I turn off vehicle? Truck is an '83.
2. What knob goes in the bottom spot on the 1st row on the right of the knob cluster? There is a precut hole with grommet plug in mine.
3. ANyone put a kill switch in their rig. Any suggestions as to placement? Contemplating wiring in a dummy twist knob in the empty spot as a kill switch. Thoughts?

Does it have a CD player? My sons player emits a beeping sound when you turn the vehicle off.

Do a search for kill switches, there was a really good thread on this a while back. There is also a gallery with tons of dash pictures or you could go to sor and look at the tech drawings. That's what I did when I bought mine, I eventually found out they were holes the PO drilled.

Any pics?

The truck has a CD player. I thought it was odd that it would emit a series of beeps. Thanks for the suggestions on the kill switch.

I will post some photo's as soon as I bust out the camera.

Mine does the same, its a panasonic. The beeps are reminding you that you forgot to take the faceplate off.. it's supposed to be a security feature... you'll get used to it though.

You may have also left your lights on. On my 88 4runner, something similar happened to me when I drove it early in the morning, got to my destination and turned it off. The thing started dinging like crazy, turns out I left my lights on.

An idea for a kill switch would be to wire a starter kill to your remote amp turn on wire on most aftermarket stereos, if you have a removeable face plate. You take your face plate, or even better even if the stereo is switched off, but the face is on, it won't start. Fairly slick, no additional controls, knobs or switches in the vehicle and it will keep it from being started with the starter.

If you had an electric fuel pump, you could wire that to your kill switch instead of the starter. This way the crook starts your vehicle, drives it to the end of the block, then it craps out. Then they think your ride is busted and leave it for dead, hopefully. That is better than just push starting it and heading off to the races.

I admittedly am a driver with minimal mechanical skills...other than 2 jump starts in 24 hours....

Does anyone know if an '83 has an electronic fuel pump?

Grendel...Sorry wasn't plagerizing you....She'sbig, square, aerodynamics of a block, 12 miles per gallon and olive brown....Grendel. My 4 year old daughter likes the name...done. Going for the custom plate on Mondy.
