You guys made it home OK?
looks like you did. Was good to hang out with you guys for a bit, sounded like a really nice trip, and makes me want to get my truck ready for 08.
Cheers,
Deny

Yes, we got back around 01:00am safe and sound.

Thanks for yours, and Charla's hospitality while we were passing through FSJ.

Are you coming wheel'n with us to Whipsaw on August 4-7 or are you going to tell us its your birthday or that your daughter has to go to hockey practice again? We nominated you Trail Master, so what time are you organizing this here run man?

Hi Bruce

We slowed down on the way up and stopped early one night to camp at Kluane. I took that opportunity to read the manual for a bit, after Clarence figured most of it out. That time helped, as we lent it to the rescue crew for a broke rig. They were able to connect with the Super Cub that was coming in, and chat before visual sighting. That was the only time it was really used. If I had been thinking, we would have given them a 400.000 frequency to use, and tried to communicate with them from one mobile unit in a FZJ80 that stayed at camp. That would have been an interesting experiment in distance, using the hand held with mag-base antenna, from a mobile base unit.

This fall I hope to have the time to be legal, so I can actually take it out and use it. I simply took it along for emergency use only, if anyone else had ham as well.

I will be selling the entire roof rack system I built for the trip. Interested?

Did you find it too heavy for offroad?

Also did you happen(or Sheldon) get the spacer I sent back to you? I mailed it prior to you going to AK. Thanks again to both of you for digging that thing out. I was able to make up the brackets and now have York air on my truck. Next is to plumb in the lines and bottle. I have all the sw's and parts.

I believe Sheldon mentioned he had got the spacer, thanks.

No, the rack is not too heavy for off road. I had a support brought up from the sliders to take the majority of the weight (I had my spare 35" SSR on top). Every once in a while off road if we hit a sharp drop at speed I would hear a "CRACK" from the top though. There were no issues on pavement. I do not see any damage yet from the off road portion. I have decided that the truck will get a cage at some point, and anything I put on top will go on that cage. The rack will be good for someone who wants to place lightish loads on top. If one was to place a thin metal brace in the fiberglass channel where the feet clamp, the load would be distributed better along the whole lip...but even without that it will do awesome for someone who wants a rack for the top of their BJ74. The system I used used the channel at the back, and the channel above each door. No drilling of the top required. I have not totalled my costs yet, however it will be sold at a discount.

It was different driving with weight up top...that is for sure.

I was thinking higher c of g.. that you might not have like the off camber feel of it.

As for that crack sound, maybe the top was just stress releasing where it contacts the metal areas. You would have a build up of pressure along the edge, hit a bump and hear it redistribute it self along the front edge. Just thinking out loud here.

Could have been. Never happened before.

Ohhh...I had to turn downhill a tad on a few occations. That's with 1.5" spacers on too. I was reminded the weight was up there...
