My home built trailer has a Dodge Caravan AWD rear axle.

It's 5 bolt and H.D. I flipped it upside down and it has great ground clearance. The flip requires no mods other than u-bolts. The tube can be cut for what ever track width you want. I chose no brakes and stripped them off including the backing plate. I went with the Caravan springs because they where plentyful at my Pull&Save wrecking yard. They are light but I found 2 sets of helper springs at the yard that where priced right also. I have added them and with this setup I had no problem hauling 3/4T, 1500 lb. plus loads of gravel.

The bed is mostly Willys truck. I'm into the project about $700. It hauls my D.S. motorcycle, my 8' jon boat, firewood, rocks, dirt most anything. I have towed it over 7 thousand miles with no problems.

Very nice trailer! The "Stop" light is a classic. Is it a repro or actual old stock?

I'm curious about the axle. It looks perfect for a trailer. The first post says it's from an AWD vehicle. Did you remove axle shafts and CVs from it? I'm trying to picture what it looks like straight out of the donor vehicle.

Nice trailer.

I'd like to see more pics of the old Willeys.

I think it was a typo and meant a FWD
Thats just a rear axle from a regular fwd minivan

yup, been a few threads out there about using these axles.
Wonder if you can find replacement hubs easily with a Toy 6 pattern...
Willy, do you know the OEM spring perches width of the axle?

That's my big question. I want something that I can bolt the same size tire onto.

I was wondering the same thing, I have had my trailer with that axle for 12 years and would like to bolt on 6 bolt hubs?
