Does anyone in the club have an older relative with serious vision problems due to macular degeneration? Are they basically unable to read their mail or the newspaper or books? I have an older used Optelec 300 video magnification system that if not used by someone is headed for the recycling bin. Google the system if you want to see how it works. If your family member could use this(or may need to in the future) you may have it for free. Anyone who wants it can let me know and I'd be happy to bring it to the meeting. New units like this are over 2K and this one is in used condition but a patient of ours who bought a new unit asked me to dispose of this one and I just couldn't bring myself to toss it in the trash. :)

And by the way on a side note, Props to Aric for using his skills to make my wife very happy!! You da man! :p

trying to figure out garage uses right now. fxxxing makes me mad that there is print out there so small even i cant read it.

this would be handy for ready wiring and things of that nature

Copy that, it would come in handy for sure. It's plugged in on my "bench" at home if anyone wants to come take a look feel free. I never thought of those applications but yes, it magnifies pretty good. Also- any use for a lens curing oven about the size of a microwave oven? Can't remember the temps on that but how about a shop use for that? Heating gears, bushings, etc. ? That's in the garage also.

YES!

My Mom is suffering through this right now. :frown:

Please do keep me in mind for this. Even if you did let me "have" it, I would consider it a loan and would gladly return it or pass it along if/when it doesn't help her.

Curtis I tried to PM you but your box is full. I'm gonna try to take it to the meeting Saturday so anyone can see it. BTW, since I've never been there will we be in a seperate room for the meeting or are we mixed with the masses? Anyone?

we had a separate room last time

Pretty sure we reserved the conf/backroom again for our club meeting :)

That's cool. In case we want to "act up" !:D

Curtis did you get a chance to try that unit out with your Mom? I hope it helps her and I'm glad it didn't end up in the dump.

I won't have a chance to get it down to her for about another month. I'll definitely keep you posted though; she's pretty excited about it.

Thanks again,

Curtis

Hi! I am writing to thank you for giving me the “reading machine” that Curtis brought to California when he came for a visit this week. It makes all the difference for me in being able to actually read a book as well as magazine articles and the newspaper. I am very happy to have it and very grateful to you for sending it.

Last June I had cataract surgery on both eyes (at different times) and was told, as I had been for years, that I might also have to have cornea surgery afterwards. That is what happened, and in December I had cell-replacement cornea surgery on my right eye, a rather new procedure, in which donor cells replace the cornea cells in the eye.

After the cornea surgery, I could not read, and I’m sure you know how difficult that would be (I’m 83). With what I call the “reading machine” I’m able to read again and that’s great! I belong to a book group and while I couldn’t read a book, I used DVD’s and CD’s of two books our group read, but this is much better! Thank you so very much. I really appreciate it.. I was not aware that there were such magnification systems – I hadn’t got past a magnifying glass.

Best wishes to you,
Louise Feist

Thanks again Chris; your efforts *really* made a difference.

Awesome indeed!!!

That's great! I am so pleased that thing didn't end up in the dumpster, and is helping someone out. She, and you are welcome. :)
