Phil, there is no mount. I looked into making a bracket but the GPS hangs down too low blocking rear view mirror. When the GPS was dissasembled, a put 2 #4 bolts through the GPS housing to act as mounting studs. The roof console was then drilled to match the studs and the GPS was bolted directly to the console.

Bob, I made an BNC cable that I ran down to the lower Rt side dash and use the stock Garmin atenna. The cable is like an extension cord, as the stock antenna will plug right back into the unit. Both the power cord and the antenna can barely be seen while pugged in and there is still room behind the GPS for my Radar detector. The only issue is that I had to move the visor pin holders towards the windshield about 3/8". No big deal. Looks fine. Allows the visors to work normally with the GPS mounted.

Sorry this is such a simplistic question but i am going to do something similiar with my GPS V very soon. Ive tried taking off the console around the sunroof controls and lights by removing the screw and trying to pry it off but it didnt budge and i didnt want to break anything. Howd you remove the console?

Maybe I missed something, but why is it upside down? here's a pic of my dad's:

Waggoner5,
That's nice. Personally I like the CB antenna mount and this idea. These options are what make each cruiser unique.

My idea for GPS is one of two that I'm toying with.
I have the Delorme Atlas 2005 program and GPS reciever.

Options 1: Use my PDA along with the GPS and mount in a good ergonomic place. A) Right over the Drivers "O's***" handle OR B) mount the PDA right in front of the radio.

Options 2: Use member "alia176" idea and mount a stand for the laptop based GPS.

Again nice job.

I didnt know you could use a GPS on a PDA (not very familiar with GPS besides the Garmin Forerunner I use for running). How well does it work? How does the reciever work? I have an old HandSpring PDA that just collects dust right now, if I could use it for GPS in the Cruiser, that would be cool.

Delorme has a program for PDA's. Check out www.delorme.com.
I don't know all the details but the program is available and the cable that connects the PDA to the GPS unit is available. Usually the cable doubles as the power supply and GPS connect. I have the laptop program but I've investigated and the PDA is a viable option.
Doing a search on ebay for PDA GPS will be a good start.

This wouldn't work with older PDA's but I have a Belkin bluetooth GPS receiver that I use with my PocketPC PDA. I like it because I can mount the receiver quite a ways from the actual PDA, and its about the size of a "D" battery. Then it transmits all the data via bluetooth to my iPAQ. It comes with its own program, but it also works with Microsoft Pocket Streets and trips. The reason I like the software that came with the Belkin receiver a little bit better is that it has voice navigation too.
SO far though, I don't have a mount for the iPAQ, but the bluetooth GPS fits great by squeezing it in the ash tray, since that is never used.
