Looking to spend a few days on Lake Powell and could use some tips.

Not looking to camp on the Lake. More of lets see as much as we can daily and stay at a hotel nightly.

The good - Boat has a burn rate of 3.5gal per hour at 30-35mph and at 70 gal capacity I can go all day without using lake ga$.

The bad – What to do with the boat? Do I pull the boat out daily and dry dock close or are hotels set up for storage/parking. I looked at Lake Powell resort with there own ramp and parking but sticker shock got the best of my cheap ass.

What are the not to miss sights and the overrated? Do I go north or east out of the marina? Is it best to go ripping around a high speed to see as much as possible or pick a couple suggested canyons and poke around.

I never ended up staying, but when I looked into it earlier this this summer Travelocity was almost 1/2 the price as trying to book directly with the resort. If you didn't try a web travel site it may be worth another try.

If you want to get away from the crowd;

Hall's Crossing, Bullfrog has a resort just across the bay.

Sure you are familiar with the shortcut from Mexican hat; 261 to the 276.

Some of the best (quiet) side canyons are just south of Hall's bay, imo.

I stayed at the Halls Crossing campground a few month ago.:hmm: Thinking back it would be a good choice if it wasnt ~140 miles more and you didnt have Moki Dugway. I dont see myself dragging my boat up that dirt road even if it is called a hwy.

Wow, been so long I forgot about the dirt part.:steer: Yup, should be at least a 2 week stay.

We used to load up the boats and set up camp at the western end of Hall's bay. Absolutely one of the best hiking experiences in my lifetime (believe it is the lower end of the water pocket fold). Moki indian relics, arches that spanned canyons (we would lay on our bellies and try to drop rocks into a pool 200 feet below), and funky 3 to 4 foot wide round holes in the sandstone full of water (some were so deep, we couldn't hold our breath long enough to touch bottom).

No meals required brushing afterwards, the fine sand mixed in would do the trick.:hillbilly:

From Wahweap, Last chance canyon offers some awesome scenery. There is a newer Navajo run marina @ Antelope Point, if you haven't checked it out. Stay away from Navajo canyon (San Juan arm) unless you have a fuel barge to tow with you.;)
