Anyone know where to get a cupholder for the space above the radio? Seen one for sale for $53, but was hoping to get one for less than that. Has anybody come up with any creative ideas?

Bite the bullet...get the one from Slee.
The lowest price I've seen would save you only $10 -- if it's still in stock.

IMHO, anything but the real thing will just be klugey.

Cup holder

I had the same setup from the factory on my 94 Dodge Ram. The previous owner had installed a aftermarket cd player, and I went through two in three years. Every warm day My cup would sweet all over my radio. If humidity was up, you might as well pissed on it. I took a diifernt approach when i switched radios on my 91. I boughtt the cubby from yota for ~$15. i know I still don't have good cup holder but, it's cheaper than replacing radios.

$56.04 is Toyota's suggested list price. anything under that is a plus.

Yeah, that is the one I was talking about from Slee. Unless I get completely frustrated, I will have too much disnonance if I bought a cupholder for $53. I might as well go for OEM at that point.

I like the fischer ones. I don't like to drive with the armrest up though.

Still have all options open though.

arcteryx,
The one from Slee is OEM.

How 'bout looking at it this way...$53 bucks translates to about $1 per week for the first year...If you use it once a day for that first year, it costs you 14 cents per day. Use it for another 2 years? Less than a nickel a day...

I have one in mine -- use it every day. Got one for the wife's 450 just so she'd stop complaining about not having a cupholder in hers...

Dude, it's worth the $50 bucks -- besides, what else you gonna use that slot for?

NorCalDoug,
Yeah, that's one way of thinking about it. And I like the breakdown too!! I am convinced- will order it this weekend. Does it hold big cups, say, like Biggie size? Regardless, I am getting tired of the 2 others that they Toyota put in(they are placed awful).

I grinded mine out as much as possible so I could put a small gatoraid bottle in it.
Cheers,
Sean

The Fischers are the cat's meow. But if I had a `95-`97 dash, I'd get the OEM (in addition to the Fischer!). The OEM is a factory fit, and it's nifty and puts the drink in the ideal spot for minimal reaching and disruption of driving. However, it will not take the huge cups, as it is not adjustable. The Fischer has a big ring with a spring-loaded tensioner that fits against whatever size cup you put in there, automatic with no work on your part. Also, there are other places to mount it besides in the center console, if that's a concern for you.

HTH,

This is so ironic, you come to the forum with the username Arcteryx, the most overpriced crap in the outdoor clothing/equipment industry and gripe about $53 for a cup holder?

Buck up the few pesos and either be happy with it, or continue to use the others that are there. FWIW, the one by the drivers seat is perfect for the 20 oz. Diet Cokes. Nothing else really matters. :flipoff2:

If I buy a crappy tshirt that I'll never wear for $1, then it's a bad deal (because I'll never wear it), but if I buy a really cool one for $60, then it's a good deal because I'll likely wear it all the time. Get the point Sparky? :D

Overpriced , but definately not crap ( More like the undisputed leader in outdoor gear ) ... However I had to go with a Sierra Designs XCR 3-ply shell yesterday @ $199 CDN . Couldn't stomach $500 or more for the Arcterx equivalent . Plus they had the same waterproof zippers etc . Funny the Sierra guy told me that they are getting out of the XCR segment soon because Arcteryx is too damn good at it . I did pick up an Arcteryx RT25 pack 2 months .. thing rocks .

TY

PS : Make me a black 'Everything Else Just Sucks' T ya fawkless fawk ! And no I'm not buying out your surplus . Give 'em to the homeless and run off a new batch ... :flipoff2:

Ever heard of Dana Design? IMHO they can give anyone a run for there money in the backpack department. Hand made in Bozeman Montana. I've got there astralplane and that thing is fawkin awesome. :bounce: Just 02

Yeah, their brand, as well as their competitors (The North Face, Marmot, Sierra Design, Patagonia, REI, etc.) are more expensive than KMart, but I know what I am getting for that- a proven, field-tested product with a lifetime warranty. If I ever have any issue with the gear, the warranty is there to back it up. I am willing to pay extra for that security blanket.

I think the cup holder is overpriced and if it breaks, then I am screwed, unless I get the 'ole Super glue out! But, being that Slee is the only reseller I have found that sells them, they can command what they want and the consumer must live with it.

did you not read dans post? the cupholder on slees site is a toyota oem product.
dans a toyota parts manager. I hardly think slee is deciding the price, especially being under toyotas list.

Cupholder

Then don't buy the bloody thing.

I thought the idea of a post was to capture ideas/thoughts from other people's experiences. That is why I put a thread out on the subject. If my last resort is to purchase it, I will. If someone has a better idea, which some have an alternate solution with the Fischer, then I wanted to hear it. I just don't think that there is a long line for a $53 cupholder.

If the product is OEM, then how can Slee sell them? I thought that only Toyota dealerships could sell OEM stuff. Just curious.

>> I thought that only Toyota dealerships could sell OEM stuff. <<

Anyone can sell Toyota "stuff." Getting the right Toyota parts at a price where someone can sell them and make a profit is the trick.

Christo sells many Toyota OEM parts - it's just that they are rest-of-the-world OEM and not available thru the US Toyota dealers. (i.e. hand throttle) The thing about OEM part is that Toyota have a monopoly on it. especially with interior parts that only fits only one vehicle model like the 80. You will not likely find one for much less the MSRP for such part.

Spill-free offers a couple of almost OEM-looking cupholders that fits the 80. A single cupholder attaches near the transfer case shifter and a twin cupholder attaches to the rear of the center console for the middle row passengers. I have both of these cupholder and they are more expensive than the OEM - $150 for the set.
