I am researching and comparing to Gaia.
Initial Thoughts:
If anyone sends you a recent gpx track that you want to go on you would not need this. Just import and follow in Gaia or other apps.
This video compares the base layer in Gaia to the app but no other layers,
The video is misleading. If you look at the Mapbox Streets LD layer it is as detailed or greater detail. I looked at San Felipe.
Mapbox Outdoors HD is also good. (See images below)
All of the track files for the Baja 1000 Courses are available online for free in GPX format. I have many of them.
Go to 4XOA.com and I show how to import a custom Google map for Satellite images and roads. The new ESRI Satellite and Topo map are also pretty good. ESRI World Imagery is also good.
That was 10 minutes of comparison. What this app may give you is local knowledge of trails and routes. The E32 map is probably based on a opensource map and customized with different colors. This means other apps likely have the same data but it looks slightly different.
They claim to have this feature:
- Access the Friends module to create or join a group and share or track your location in real time.
I would think you would have to have a working data plan and most of Baja has no phone service. You could always use an app called GroupMe for this same functionality. Or Glypse. Or any other "Where am I app" but all would require data. I like using my InReach for that purpose.
