Have had several LCs over the years........just picked up a beautiful 04 LX470 from Wisconsin. Dealership delivered vehicle to Michigan and took our trade-in (a 15 Infiniti QX80) back with them. Loved the Infiniti, but was able to shed a car payment by doing this, which is great.

So it's an 04 LX470. Spent winters in Clearwater, FL until 2012, so it's only seen 3-4 northern Winters. 169k miles, 2-owner, sold and serviced exclusively by the selling Lexus dealer since new.

Going through the pages of service history, it's pretty Un-Remarkable. All the services were done, every oil change on-time, the 30k services were all done. Water pump and timing belt done at 91k. Transmission started having delayed engagement of reverse at 130k, they checked fluid (clean) and told customer to drive it a bit more. It didn't improve, so they replaced the transmission at 135k.......at the Lexus dealer. (this is one of the the first trans failures I can even find on the 5 speed auto).

Nothing else in the service history to note.

Car is extremely clean, body/interior/undercarriage, with only a couple items I'd like advice on:

1) Very slight rust bubbling at top of windshield, driver's A-pillar area. I'll put clear silicone on it to get through the winter, then I plan on having my bodyshop pull the glass, fix whatever rust is back there before it rots the A-pillar away. (both A-pillars are dry inside at the bottom)

2) very slight rust starting at inside seam on upper tailgate. I can fix myself to keep it from spreading.

3) Upon close examination, the Passenger seat leather looks like it's been resprayed.......and the finish is starting to rub off. IS there any RELIABLE source for new leather covers (no, I don't want camo or sheepskin) to have professionally installed? I bought a set of ATLAS skins for my 80, which turned out terrific, but it sounds like he's no longer a reputable vendor.

Any help appreciated, THANK YOU!:)

Is that the original windshield? I'd get the weatherstripping stripped ASAP to ensure its not rotten away under there.

The windshield has been replaced. I peeled the mounding back a little and the rust appears to be largely superficial. Still going to have my body guy look at it.

Very nice man!

I noticed you bought your truck at the Lexus dealer my brother works at (has been with them for several years). Dmitry, their service manager. He said he remembers that truck and putting Blizzaks on it for you before you made your trip back home!

The roof rust is extremely common after a windshield is replaced by someone who doesn't have experience with these Toyota products and/or is careless. We had that happen on our old Sienna.

Picked it up as a used vehicle back in 2005 (it was only 3 years old), all original aside from the replaced windshield. Initially there was no rust, but over time, it developed from a small rust bubble, to something like what you have now, to about 10X worse than yours is currently. It eventually got very bad and water started leaking into the cabin. We should have removed the glass much sooner and had it taken care of but we drove that van "until the wheels fell off" for over 240k miles before getting rid of it.

I would have it addressed asap. The sooner the better.

The rust inside the upper tailgate is very common in the salt belt states. I've seen some 100's up here that have massive holes in that area.

From my understanding, the gasket around the upper tailgate handle is made out of foam that tends to hold moisture in. Some people have just removed it completely to let that area air out. I would do that and spray either Fluid Film inside the upper tailgate panel (after taking off the plastic cover) or some kind of body cavity wax (cosmoline) to stop the rust from spreading and prevent new rust spots from forming elsewhere along the seam.

That's funny, what a small world! The driver commented how awesome the Blizzaks were in the snow:)

Very happy with it.

I'll address the windshield rust ASAP.

Took it to my body shop guy. He checked the windshield and said he thinks it's superficial at this point, to protect it for the winter and he'll fix it in the spring:)

Firstly, Congratulations on the 04. Same year as mine and what I believe to be the best year before the old guys left the plant and with all the updates including first year of Blu-tooth, save for the LED tail lights. Your seats look perfect, put some meguiars Rich Leather on them and just enjoy. I had mine re-dyed and it is starting to go too, but I can't afford the expense of a reupholster at the moment.

Check your AHC fluid and get on that rust when you can, just crack open a fish oil tablet or two and put it on the rust in the meantime! Fortunately we don't have to worry about rust in Oz. As for the Tranny failure, that is unheard of so you got really lucky with a new unit.

Congrats again, I love it and keep us posted.

Looks like a nice rig! Congrats!
