so a while back in the Tire Wars thread I think I was told to report back on the Duratracs after some hard wheeling. so here it is:
I did a couple really wheeling heavy trips this summer in addition to putting a lot of highway miles on the truck over summer for work. the last month they have also gotten quite a bit of "rally" driving on them since hunting season opened up and my locker makes drifting really easy on the forest service roads in my backyard (yes I know drifting a lifted Fj60 on 31s and no sway bar is not smart or safe)
so the tread wear is actually not bad at all they still have tread left on them and look pretty good. ill update in a few days with the tread level I have now and measure it with my digital caliper and yall can find the original tread depth and reference from there. I got the tires thanksgiving week this last year and run my truck offroad a lot.
softness, they are soft tires and crown a little bit on the sidewalls. I run them at 35-40 PSI on road and do not air down while wheeling. the tires do have rock rash on the tread and do get chunked on the rock around my house which is almost shale like and can be sharp.
my locker has put considerable wear on the tires compared to an open rear. a lot of that has to do with running the truck in 2wd a lot more with the locker.
for wheelin on rocks. they still grip really well and have plenty of traction for technical sections of rock with PSI kept at normal highway numbers and not down to 10-15 psi.
so far we haven't had snow but we did get a fair amount of rain the last week or two =. they still grip well in mud and wet stuff when I go mudding so no complaints there.
overall I am impressed with the ruggedness of the tires overall and lack of heavy signs of wear. I have prob put 15-20k on the tires since purchasing. I am going to be looking for a set of summer tires for next year because I would like ot save these tires for winter again. I figure ill get another 2 years out fo them before needing to be replaced at this rate. ill be testing them on sand in November for turf and surf at pismo
