Good source of 24v switched power...

...in the engine compartment? Thinking about what I want to tap into with the Racor fuel heater. Where's a easy-to-access source of switched 24v? I'd rather not take it into the cab if at all possible, too much going on in there with the converter, stereo and cb already.

Moose,
I ran a 12v switch into the cab that activates the coil of a relay. To this relay I hooked up 24v which the switch operates. As long as the amperage isn't greater than the relay can handle mixing and matching 12 and 24 volts across a relay isn't or shouldn't be a problem (I'm assuming decent relays - Bosch, Hella, etc...) I would definately switch the racor.

I found 24v off of the positive battery terminal and installed a fuse. My future plan is to install a 24v fuse panel (watertight) under the hood and make the install cleaner. Right now I have inline housed fuses on the 24v items.

I run this combination 24/12v relay stuff in 4 or 5 spots under the hood (starting, walbro, racor, a/c, ignition circuit) and haven't had a problem yet....

for what it's worth....

I'd be nervous about making it a manually-switched device. I'm bad at forgetting stuf like that. I was thinking something swtiched to the ignition, like the radio or the 24v accessory outlet...but without wiring throught the firewall and then back out to the engine bay. Could I tap into the glow plug power?

There is a "Power outlet" in the engine compartment of my BJ74. I thought I heard someone mention that there is a source for switched 24v power inside. Might be worth a check in your rig. I would use a 24v relay from Hella (part #87426, available from Lordco).
