I ran the 1050 for a few years and had no issues. It's not the fastest, but did the job for $60

Used it in Coloardo in 2014 for 4 days of 20psi to 40psi air-ups and it did nicely. Ive since switched to an on-board setup..

Best,

John

i searched but the threads are pretty old so can anyone recommend a good portable air compressor, probably a 12 v and one I can use the clips to hook up to the battery when needed. The MV50 seemed to be pretty popular in the past. Thanks for the help.

Thoughts on this one:
Amazon.com: MasterFlow MF-1050 Air Compressor: Automotive

Depending on tire size/needs, that is a good, cost effective pump. This is more capable, but also larger in size and cash outlay. IMHO the two biggest bangs for the buck for the job.
Puma 1006 12 Volt Hot Dog 1.5 Gallon Oil Less Air Compressor Free Shipping

appreciate all the replys. The Puma is nice but a bit overkill for what I need but if i decide to go with arb lockers, might be the way to go. I just need one to airup after airing down offroad. Doesnt have to be the fastest compressor, just a relaible one. Thaks again for the help

Thanks for the info Tools R us, I see on Amazon the 1050 is $59.98 and the other one is $72.77.

Same unit, shop by price.:hillbilly:

Puma 1006 gets my vote also. Great bang for the buck.

The Puma is quite a bit of bang for the buck. Pump and tank can be divorced for easier fitment. It fills my 12.50 x 37" Cooper STT Pros from 15 to 35 in less than 2.5 minutes, each. I could be faster IF I took the valve stems out, but I am too lazy for that. I usually wheel several times per month, year round, so lots of miles on my Puma, and no problems since I got it in 2011. I know someone who wheels as much as I do, and his Puma is about 10 years old, without any problems. They do seem to be pretty hearty!

I use a Viair 300c pumps up 4 37s from 11lbs in 15 no overhear killer carry bag JMO

Overall they are great pumps, likely made in the same place, has the same displacement as the Viair mentioned. Some have a wiring weakness, check the crimps at the fuse and in the switch cover, some need to be tightened/replaced, then good to go.

Virtually the same pump, they have slightly nicer accessories, but IMHO, not worth almost X3 price nicer.

Thanks for the help Tools R Us, I did'nt know the differences and since they are similar pumps I'll probably just go with the cheaper one for now and upgrade later if needed. Thanks again for the help everyone, I love this site.

Q Industries makes the MasterFlow compressor, but also markets under the SuperFlow brand. They have a lot of options: Q Industries - Choose Your Air Compressor.

MasterFlow 1050 = SuperFlow MV-50. This is the smallest you'd want to go.
SuperFlow MV-90 for around $130 is a nice step up. They also make this for Smittybuilt (model 2781).
SuperFlow MV-89G = MasterFlow 1089. This is their twin piston offering. $130.

They have some annoying non-standard fittings (which can be modified - do a search), but they are a good bang for your buck.

What size tires do you have and how often will you be using it?

I bought my first MV50 in 2004(ish) and mounted it inside my engine compartment with a switch and tank and external quick disconnect. (Kinda bored at the time and it was pointless really). That one lasted until 2015. Bought my 2nd MV50 and just keep it in its travel bag, nice and clean. Airing up from 15-35psi, it takes roughly 2 minutes per tire (315/75r16). I use it about once a month and really love the size and power of it. I think if I had 37's and used it weekly, I'd probably go with the Puma.
