Can someone give me a tip for a good family trail around Payson? Since I will be loaded down with people I'm looking for a scenic easy run this Sunday.

Payette is a nice easy trail with some slightly difficult options if the awesome scenery doesn't excite you enough...

Thats the only trail I've been on in Payson tho...

above the rim you have Control road. Scenic, all graded dirt. Of course, Rim rd, and the myriad of trails that run off of that. All easy roads.

yeah the control road on the rim is great and scenic. you'll see a sign for the general crook trail,,, take it, its a great little loop that will seem like your not in this state anymore. its all green with moss hanging off the trees and stuff.

Payette is a lot of trail for a loaded, stock 80. I wouldn't dream of taking my stock 80 on it. Even the bypass road would be challenging where it crosses the creek.

The control rd is definitely a good one.....It is even marked by signs so it is easy to find..

sounds good, thanks

Do you have any more specific directions? :)
Howdy! Duh, not really, because I followed someone else in. I could probably find my way back, but I don't know the road numbers, etc. John

Control Road is BELOW the Rim. It connects Tonto Village on the east with AZ87 just south of Pine on the west.

Rim Road (FH300) is atop the Rim.

Are you going to be on any particular side? Wood's Canyon side? Strawberry side? Does it matter? How long a trip in hours?

Oops, I missed the mostly stock 80 part...you probably wouldn't enjoy the trail much stock.

Cody is right, he missed the stock, loaded part. He also missed the part about Fossil Creek. We all were just there and cleaned up much of the litter. We had a grand time. It is an incredible place. The creek is beautiful with waterfalls everywhere. The road is easy if you want it to be.
There may be a collective forgetfulness about the place due to a couple of foolish drunks who nearly died while we were there. The rescue cost the club most of our spare blankets and towels as well as a peaceful evening. But it took nothing away from the beauty of the place. Go. Enjoy. Just don't ride a quad while drunk! We won't be there to save you!
