Finnally out of CA! Now in Bozeman, MT
So my dad is in the market for a cruiser and he has found an 85 fj-60 with 150,000 miles a 95 Chevy v8 conversion, 450 automatic tranny, 2 1/2 inch lift, and basically a body on frame restoration. It is absolutely perfect condtion. No leaks, sqeaks or anything. The guy wants 12,000 for it. Do you think this is resonable for a southern CA truck?

SoCal prices are typically a LITTLE higher than elsewhere, but for $12K it better be more than good. More like PERFECT, kinda like those TLC fully restored $28K jobs. If the guy's asking $12K, doesn't that mean it'll actually sell for about $10K? Take it for a long test drive, like 5 hours, including 4-wheeling. Check every function, every mechanism. Hell, the rear window defroster should work for that money. Oh, and Service Records, Service Records, Service Records...

That V-8 conversion will cost you $12k in some places. Just the conversion - not the hardware!

I'm not sure I know what a "450 automatic tranny" is? Do you mean the 4L60E? That is nice and will be nice and low, w/ o/d.

If it was done well, then they have a lot of $ wrapped up in it...

Whether the market will bear that price is another story...

12k for frame off resto is reasonable to me. I have seen crappy ford pickup trucks go for that. As a matter of fact it's had to get a nice truck these days without spending the denero! From my perspective, if it is as described and you dad has the cash and a thing for the Cruzahs then offer 11k and see where it goes.
