Gonna buy me a new FJ Cruiser.

I have a dumpy rental I'm selling soon. Once I do that I will feel more comfy signing papers on a new FJ.
All I want is a silver 4x4. I dont need fancy luxury anything, I use my truck as a truck, and I tend to like a spartan truck anyway.

If you were going to buy your FJ Cruiser over again, what would you do differently?

Never got rid of my 80 that I traded for a Tacoma which I turned in for the FJ.

Other than that I wouldnt do anything different.

Nothing. Except maybe the A-trac thing, since that freebie was figured out after I bought mine.

After you buy your FJ Cruiser drive straight over to a tire shop and swap them out for some better tires, I didn't do this initially and was kicking myself for it. We did although get very lucky with the tire recall and traded the tires then.

We had out chance with the tire recall. The only problem was, when my wife went for the recall, they did not have the tires. So, they went to Discount Tire and got 4 of the crappy tires that were on it and replaced the tires. I found out too late to remedy the situation as Texarkana was 80 miles away.

I got the base model with 6 speed and standard rear locker. Replaced the tires as soon as it arrived. Did the free A-trac mod, and I lucked out on the tire recall. Sold those, and now I'm getting a lift for it.
I wouldn't do anything diffrent.

I have the 6spd 'cuz I like a manual, but I probably would go for the auto. Better mileage and better control for tuff offroad situations. Also, do not, repeat do not, get the Toyota accessory skid plate.

I have to disagree on this one. The manual gives waaaaay more control in difficult wheeling situations. You just have to know how to control it.

I'm speaking specifically of rock crawling. I have the manual, always have, but inching up an obstacle is a lot easier with an auto. It also depends where you are wheeling - in Arizona the type of terrain is much different than in BC - I was out last weekend with a BJ74 from Alberta and they kept saying as much. In an auto I can use both feet and only 2 pedals to keep even engine speed up a step.

But you are talking inching forward. There is the slight rollback that is handy in a manual. All I'm saying is there are more options on what do do with a manual while wheeling. It all comes down to personal prefrence, though.

I plan to get the manual 6 speed. I just like rowing gears! The only automatic I have is in my motorhome, and I always end up stomping the dead space to the left of the brake and then comically waving my hand above the tranny looking for the stick shift.
My wife calls it "casting the magic go-faster spell"

Ryan - I don't disagree, I own and enjpy the 6spd, especially on mountain grades, but those 80's I run with sure have better/easier control on the rox - - skinny pedal, fat pedal and thats all there is...

And those slightly modded 80's never fail to impress me. My FJC keeps up tho...

I'd get the option package one, do'nt need the subwoofer in the rear. would like to have had the space.
