Going look at a 200 today (LX)

First, I'll tell you all what I told my wife: I'm keeping my 80. I'll never get rid of my baby.

Anyway, going look at a 2009, two owner LX. What do I need to be looking for when I go drive this thing. I'm totally unfamiliar with the 200s except that I've seen them on the road.

It has 89K miles and they are asking $41,995. Is this a decent price?
 
KBB range is $35,700 for fair condition to $39,898 for excellent condition assuming private party sale. Dealer will be more.
 
Just for your reference when looking, I paid $52k for a 2011 LX570 with 29k miles, 9/11 build date so still had over 1 year bumper to bumper warranty and 3+ years and 30k more miles of drivetrain warranty. Also Texas truck so no rust, looks as good on the bottom as on the top. On a 2009 I would check to see if water pump is leaking or has been replaced? Some owners of 08-10 models have complained about a resonance from the steering or gas pedal.

Gotcha. It is at a dealer but everything I've seen around here has been in the general price range they are asking. $40K is my budget as I have a baby on the way and a perfectly fine 80 in the driveway. Either I get a deal or I walk. But this thing is very clean (in the pics at least).

Call the dealer get the vin and go on the Lexus owners site and pull up all the service records before you go look. If it's well maintained $38k would be a good deal. Dealer should have the Carfax. The suspension on the 200 series is a major upgrade from the 100 series. If you look at a engineering description and drawing it is a work of art and Heavyduty. A guy in Europe did a trans Africa trip with a LC 200 with the AVS/AHC, no problems. Make sure they maintained the Ahc/AVS which means they changed the fluid at 60k miles. Good luck keep us posted and congrats on the soon to be new baby.

It does not look like the fluid was changed in the height control system at 60K miles. Is there another abbreviation for the AHC/AVS system?
 
Another reference purchase: We bought our 2010 LX about 1 year ago at a Mercedes dealer in Fort Lauderdale, FL for $48K. It had 40K miles, very nice inside but a couple of "parking lot" scratches on the outside. Everything worked.

I would say make sure all the expensive stuff is working: smooth shifting, strong engine, hydraulic suspension (cycle up and down, doors have to be closed), automatic rear hatch, power seats, 3rd row, power windows, stereo system, rear seat entertainment if installed, etc. I guess you could test the crawl control.

We ended up buying the comprehensive extended warranty to 6 year / 100K miles. It was pretty cheap at around $2500.

If it shows the dealer call them and ask if it was changed. It's suppose to be per owners manual.
 
The used 570's are all about condition and maintenance. We bought an 09 LX570 3 years ago and just traded for a new 2015 LX. The 09 had 82K on the clock, was in pristine condition, with all service performed at the dealer. The dealer has it listed for 42K

I would suggest that with the one you are looking at and the one I had - dealers are asking in the same range. I would think 38 to 40 is probably in the range of what you are going to pay a dealer. But again - you want a pristine vehicle with documented service history.

And - a 2009 model is a great year. Frankly it drives / rides pretty much like our 2015.

Welp, I went ahead and bought my new to me 200. It is in excellent shape with an near complete service history and the color combo I wanted. Paid $40K. I love her already. With the exception of tires, I'll probably keep her stock. Thanks for the advice here as usual.
