Going back in time, 22re swap for 20r, possible?

I tried the pirate's site for an answer but I guess none of them are up to the question.

Can I put an old (good and cheap) 20r engine in an 87' 4runner that has a bad EFI 22re? If so, what do I need to do in order to make this work?

Is this an easy swap or a bad idea. What fits together and what does not?

Any help, facts, experiences are welcome.

its a bad idea, thats a step backwards, imo you can locate, or rebuild your current 22re
 
don't do it. you'll regret the loss in hill climbing/off camber ability. my buddy has a buggy made out of an '83 w/ the 20R. It is an awesome rig, but everytime he hits a hard bump/steep hill/steep sidehill on the trail, his engine dies. It starts right up, but still a PITA. Anyway, you can probably find a good 22re for pretty cheap. What's wrong with the one you have?
 
The 22re has a bad head with a busted bolt in it form the PO who tried to install a new head gasket and failed in his efforts. It has been sitting for 5 years in pieces and it has 255K on it already.

The 20r motor runs, is still in the donor truck with about 40k miles, has reverse mounted weber carb, offenhuaser intake, header and has no leaks. It is selling for about half the price of what a worn out 22re goes for, unless someone near SLC has a 22re just laying around and its ready to rock.

wow. i wonder if you could adapt the efi to the 20R? it seems like i've heard of people doing this.

edit: 40K on a 20R?!?! That's some crazy low miles!

Ya' I could make an adapter!!!!!...........out of tin foil, in my kitchen. Do you have any more direction on an adapter that wouldn't be homemade or if it was, who do I talk to or where do I go to look at the specs?

Also, I am not dealing with the 22R, its a 20R if that makes a difference on adapting my EFI to the 20R head. I have also heard of it on a 22R but will it work on a 20R?

and notyourmom, it is an overseas motor that was pulled at 30K I am told.
 
maybe call up someone like lc engineering. they should know something about this.

If your going to try somthing like this put a 20r head on a late (lazer) block. Build it up slap it in. If you put a carb on a EFI truck it will be no longer legal. Also going to a 20r you loose displacement and gobs of power. for adapters call LC engenieering (sp) they would be the ones to have it.

I was looking for info on the 20R, but while you brought it up, does anyone know anything about what isotel just said here? 22r with 22re intake/exhaust and all the trimmins. I have a line on a 22r.
