Sunday ride

This was proposed by me. I was thinking about a run from FR 376 north of the tunnels across the Guadalupe River up to Holiday Mesa and Giant Footprint ruins. This is a run I did solo late last summer, and a few times earlier before the road was (temporarily) closed. The attached map shows the route to the ruins. From there we could continue north up Holiday Mesa coming out on NM 126 or go back the way we came. Or, Steve mentioned a "short cut" that we could go out on, although I have no idea where that might be given my experience up in that area.

Note that the first part of the trail has some pucker factor involved as it has a loose, steep climb up the mesa cliff. On top of the mesa there are some rock stair steps for fun.

Also, I may decide to camp in the area on Saturday night so anyone is also welcome to do that.

I think it was out through Stable Canyon, onthe left side here:

That was the way out to the north I was thinking about. I thought you were thinking Cat Mesa or some other way to Ponderosa.

Ummm, go play in the forest, maybe camp ... or slave on da'40 all weekend. Tough choice, seriously.

Cat Mesa is on the other side of SR 4. I thought we went out via the road by where it says "Cebollita Mesa" to the ENE. Maybe we could try to get out via Stable Canyon, or the "Jeep Trail" just north of it, or a little ways east of there, out the trail that comes out between the words "Lake" and "Fork" in "Lake Fork Canyon". It was a long time ago, and we didn't have GPS. I'm not sure yet that I can make it, actually. We said Sunday, right?

This sounds like a possibility for me. I will watch the thread.

Is this still on the table? If not, I may try to find something else to run Sunday 6/10.

I'll be in the Jemez one way or the other.

too much for my stock 40?

No, not in the least (and you know that 2manycruisers). My point was that Red River is a complete joke as a wheeling destination.

Sunday then? Shall we meet at the gas station by the Wendy's at the corner of 528 and 550 at, say 9:00?

Anybody else considering camping out on Saturday night?

10:00 am at the northern end of the tunnels sounds good to me.

We're in...meet at 528 & 550 @ 9:00 AM?

James and I made it back safe. And my brain was only partially numbed by all the damn rattling...

so I should be able to wheel with the part of my brain that isn't numb... :D
