Like the title says. Bought the Rotopax like four years ago for a lengthy trip from US to Alaska and back. Never used them, forgot about the gas in them, I'm sure it's bad, bad, bad.

I want to get rid of the old gas and put new gas in them so I can make use of them with the new rig, rotating through gas every few months, but I have no idea what to do with 8 gallons of bad gas that doesn't eventually involve causing a haz-mat team to be dispatched to a place with a lot of little furry creatures???

Anyone got any ideas?

8 gallons is a LOT of weeds...

So after a little searching it looked like I had a few options.

1. A municipal household hazardous waste facility.

2. Possibly a shop and/or store.

3. Put the gas in my tank and use it.

We don't have a household haz-waste facility in my city or county (or the one closest), so that was out. I didn't call shops/stores around, but my gut said it wouldn't have mattered.

After some research, however, I found out that gas doesn't necessarily "go bad" per se, but rather the volatile chemicals that help a vehicle start can evaporate if the container has any way for vapor to leak. But even if that does, the gas itself will still be fine as long as you mix it with other good gas in small portions.

I poured 2 gallons in an almost full tank, no problems. Now I just have six gallons to go.

That gas is almost 3 years old. Crazy.

Of course, the Rotopax are incredible and hadn't leaked/evaporated at all from what I could tell. YMMV.

That's the best plan. Just add a little of the old gas (1 gal?) to the tank when you fill up. The good stuff will dilute the old stuff. No problems. Engine will burn it just fine. Eventually you'll use it up.
