Hi Everyone! We're new, and this is our first post.

We're in Las Vegas, NV. We came here in November of 2000, driving our '98 Land Cruiser. We kept it until April, 2004 we decided to buy a Lexus RX330. Well, its been a good vehicle, but we both have decided we want the larger vehicle back. So, it's either going to be the 2008 Land Cruiser, or the Lexus 570. Right now I'm trying to get a grip on what the differences are going to be, and whether or not the Lexus will be worth the additional money. I'm not much concerned about things like entertainment features or exotic wood trim. I am interested in mechanical differences such as engine, transmission, suspension, transfer cases, etc. What do you folks think? Will there be any mechanical or operational reasons to choose the Lexus over Land Cruiser? Thanks!

Good question. I'm kind of thinking the same...but not until I see them both... in the flesh !!

I like the look of the later 100 series over the look of the later LX470s.

I think the Cruisers look a lot better. At least in pictures.

I chose the '01 LC over the LX because I wanted a certain exterior color. I now wish I had gone with the LX. Mainly for the better CPO warranty. IMO the LX has too much fluff though..chrome, rear wing, etc.. That stuff doesn't do much for me. The LC has a cleaner look, to me. I'm sure the '08 Lx will continue with all the exterior goop that the 100 series LX had. Is it me, or does the chrome surround around the rear licence plate look a lot like a Lincoln Navigator ? That is not the image I want to project !!

I don't believe there are major mechanical differences between the two based on the reading I've been doing. It may come down to who offers a better dealership experience in your area.

If you plan on using it as an offroad vehicle then get the LC, it will be easier to lift and put big tires on. But if you are going to use it for light duty off-roading with no plans to do serious modifications, get the LX, it has a much better warrenty, loads of nice features like Air cooled seats, and a significantly better sounding Mark Levinson System. The Core difference between the two are the suspension, and the front end. The LX has better lights and a more aerodynamic front end.
Also, the LX has historically had a better resale value. So the actual cost to own is not a high as just the increase in price over the LC. Best of luck, let us know when they hit the showroom floors.

The drivetrain will be the same for both same as the LC100 and LX470. You might want to find out about suspension specifications and options on both, that will probably be the biggest mechanical difference (if any). Other than that will jsut be the normal Lexus stuff of nicer interior and more luxuries, and normally better dealers (at increased cost to you :D)

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

I am confused about the Toyota vs Lexus warranty comments. As I read it, Toyota offers bumper to bumper for 3 years, and drivetrain for 5 years. Lexus simply offers bumper to bumper for 4 years. Mileage isn't an issue for me.

So, why does the Lexus warranty look so much better? Wouldn't the additional year on the Toyota drivetrain components be better?

I'd appreciate your hearing your thoughts.

Thanks!

Yes the additional warranty would be better. I think I would go with the lexus because of the better customer service/loaner vehicle when bringing the vehicle for servicing. The Toyota delaer does not care if you purchased a tercel or a cruiser and they will treat you that way.

Bastid!

macneill, are you referring to the French actor, Jean-Pierre Bastid? And, if so, why?

For the 2007 LX470, it is 4 years bumper to bumper and 6 years for the powertrain warranty versus 3/5 for the Toyota. Not sure what coverage the LX570 will have though.

That's pretty $hitty. When I go to a Land Rover dealer, I am always treated like a diplomat. Toyota dealers could learn a LOT from Land Rover in that respect.

If I spend big bucks on something, I figure I deserve preferrential treatment when I walk through the door.

Toyota is the most popular vehicle on the planet right now. When you're number 1, you don't really need to go the extra mile. Especially when your car company is actually worried about to being too popular and wiping out the American domestic auto industry.

Very nicely put. I'm glad to hear some positive remarks about anything Land Rover on this site. Mostly all I ever hear regarding LR products is negative in nature. Mostly by idiots who have most likely never owned one and is just vomiting vile dribble. LC4life, kinda like the bashing you seem to get for having an FJC. I had a new tranny put in my 100 a few weeks back and when I got my rig out of the shop there were all sorts of greasy foot prints all over my carpets. Not good !! I seriously doubt Lexus would have returned my car in the same condition that my Toyota dealership did... I get treated very well by my LR dealership when I take my 1991 RRC in for svc. That is one reason I am leaning towards a new RR s/c over an '08 LC.
