First off, kudos to TAC for putting on a wonderful event! There was a great turn-out and you guys really made us feel welcome. Thanks for all your hard work.

I really had a great three days. Good trails, good camping, great food, great company and super weather. It was sure worth the 1,400 mile round trip!

Initially, my thought was the trails were too tight. On the way home I realized that the tightness of the trails helped make the event memorable and a challenge. It might be great if they can add a couple wider trails that are a little more wagon friendly, but I wouldn't change the existing trails.

My only concern or thought for improvement, right off the top of my head, would be to mandate a strict speed limit through camp. There were a number of kids and dogs in the camp area and every now and then someone would run through the site at 25 or 30 and that's just too fast IMO.

For those who did not make it this year, put Flat Nasty on your short list for next year. I can personally recommend it!

This was a great event and I might be back, with a 40.

Some of the things that would be nice are:
1) A little more description on the trail - One green trail was much tighter than the other. Another green trail was not tight at all. I also went on two yellow trails that were more wagon friendly, but required sliders.
2) Have the portapotties serviced during the event. They were a little ripe at the end.
3) Keep Kowboy doing the raffle, that was "most excllent."

Tim and I had a great time and have put together this video to remember our experiance. It's 21 minutes, so get a beer and sit a spell.

Thanks for the great time. It was worth the drive to have fun and make some new friends, even those I have known "online" for several years.
 
Awesome video! It looks like a great place. Wish I could have been there. Which leads me to my only suggestion - maybe avoid Nascar weekend in Kansas City so I can come next year !!! While I did get to see Tony win, it looks like the trip down south to support my own TAC would have been great.

Well as I see it, went off without a hitch. :D
Everyone seemed to have fun & just do what they wanted (trail riding & :beer: ).

Keep doing what you did.....don't make it a very by the book event, keep it the way yawl had it-some simple directions & times to be at, but other than that let folks enjoy the park!

OK only idea I have-a stock 80 & maybe 40 go wheel the park with Ron & show him what easy/med/diff trails are....some of the med made me :eek: so I know folks that would have had issue with these.

We discussed a few items before leaving yesterday:

  1. Portable toilets - spoke with Sheila and they realized (too late) that they were going to be a problem. They'll either have more, or have them serviced during the event.
  2. Trails - thoughts of more classifications - such as 1 thru 5. Also possibility of widening some of the trails to be more wagon-friendly.
  3. Schedule - we'll work to have a better schedule up front. The BBQ and raffle could be held earlier in the afternoon since lighting is in short supply and Kowboy reads off those numbers fast.

We (kaylin, Hannah & I) had a great time. Thanks to Erik, Chris, Mike & and all who helped plan and staff--you did a great job. you guys went above and beyond with the kids stuff & the food.

event feedback:

1. bathrooms (mentioned above)
2. speed limit in camp ground (tim mentioned)
3. I would leave tralls as they are but change the rating or better describe them.


We'll be back next year...

I don't know if I have anything to add that hasn't already been said. However, this was my first TLCA event, my kids first time camping/sleeping in a tent, and only the second time my truck has been off-hwy (even if it was only the not-so-easy easy trails) in the last 20 years. All I have to say is thank you to everyone involved in making this such a memorable event for my family. The kids activities were far and above my expectations, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. No one got offended when my son asked repeatedly if they were a pirate or a cowboy. Great job and thanks again for all the effort involved in making this happen.

I dont think anyone would have guessed this was a first time event. Everything was "most excellent". The only improvement I can suggest is a more current trail map. There were several time we had problems because of a new intersection that was not marked, which then put you on the wrong trail. Thanks for all the hard work and it was great going to an event that was finally and easy distance.(2 hours is great)
 
A fine event!

I really appreciated the "family gathering" atmosphere. The folks at TAC did an exceptional job sharing responsibilities and helping folks find what they needed. Were the ATVs part of our group? If so, then some SLOW signs would be helpful.

Great job ! good venue, good food , Great folks !! One suggestion set your schedule well in advance and stick to it !! I also heard complaints about the raffle, to dark to read #s, and #s were read to fast. Why not just have everyone write their name on the ticket. Great cobler!!!!!
 
Yes Ken, I am a pie-rat and the next time I see you you're gonna be walkin' the plank.(This is not the first little one that has ask if I was a pirate or if I lived on a ship)
For those of you didn't notice, the outhouses were leaning forward, and nobody was closing the lids which both compounded the problem.
Some things I thought we might be able to improve on are:
TLCA required safety items:
Add child safety seats
Sell first aid kits and fire extinguishers at registration then raffle off leftovers(a couple of each)

Add to TAC recomended items
Everthing in vehicle be secured / tied down, This might even be put on TLCA list which would be my preference.

Something that might be nice to add would be some sort of TAC in vehicle trash sacks. I did see a little trash on a trail. We all need to help keep this place clean.

We also need to watch for people not paying for camping, I owe somebody 15 Bucks.

I would like to see a new position in TAC. This would be a food or meal coordinater who would organize our feeding system at events and I mean organizing and delegating, not doing everthing themselves. I kinda envision delegating meals to a meal leaders, have them supply food list. Maybe have one or two people take all the food lists for an event and buy all the food then each meal leader (with team) prepare their meal, close to a predetermined time. I brought a cooler full of food and everytime it was time to start a meal I ended up at the tech-in tent. Not that I complaining, I was well fed with excellent food, it just seemed that we can be better organized. But I was kinda planning on helping instead of hauling a cooler full of food home. The Chef didn't cook at all I don't think.

I want to thank everybody for coming, and especially all the support we received from the other staff members, as well as the guests, which made this a success just by everybody pitching in and helping everybody else.

Al, the zuk was loaded perfectly, In the dark I had to keep looking to see if it was still back there. Thanks

As a new member of TAC and TLCA, this was the first event I had attended. To say that I was overwelmed with the friendliness of everyone would be an understatement. Since we were the " new guys ", we kind'a camped to ourselves. After thinking about this event at work ALL day, I now see that this was a mistake on our part. Since we're pretty much early risers due to my work schedule, we VERY much enjoyed the people who happened by, smelled the coffee, and stopped to have a cup or two, and the Texas fella's who enjoyed the Chile Verde. Taz was enjoyable, as he and my wife talked Dutch Oven cooking , and we learned something new there. I met ALOT of REALLY GOOD people, and wouldn't know where to start to thank them AND the owners of the park, Ron and Sheila. Thank you Mike for showing me a 40 CAN ride fairly smooth on the trail, and the Texas Guys for the shere entertainment. Alot of people made the long road trip to be in my neck of the woods, someday soon maybe I can visit there's. In all, it ended too quickly for us. I can now put faces with names, and it gives the board to me a whole new perspective. Al
