I don't use the nav even though have the 16. Google Maps always works better and traffic conditions are more accurate

I agree for actual navigating much better to use Google Maps...that is why after all these years we have never updated the nav. This is more for casual observance. One thing that is cool is seeing just how much things have changed. Half the time it seems the roads we are on are not listed, especially on the west side of Houston. Growth has been staggering...all thanks to fracking.

It says it's only compatible with '08-'09 LC's. Anyone know why? I would like to update my '11, and this is a good price point.

Hmm, might give it a try on my 08. I generally use Google but that is often because my current nav data set is so old.

I called my local dealer and they say 2015 is still the latest update. Looks to be a mistake on ebay.

I thought that 15.1 was the last update for Gen 5, but saw this on ebay today. Anybody know if this was actually released? I will need to give the dealer a call to confirm. In Houston they add so much concrete every year even a 2 year old map is missing a lot.

New 2017 Gen 5 Toyota Lexus Scion WEST Navigation Map Update DVD Ver 16.1 U41 | eBay

Don't do it.
I ordered that same DVD on eBay...

-It was a poorly-burned, home-copied/labeled thing that DID NOT WORK.
Not an issue of the wrong software...rather it did not even recognize it as a DVD. Total garbage.
Emailed the guy and he refunded... and he did not sound surprised.

Update on the update. Toyota does not seem to have them but Lexus does. I am going to buy one from Lexus tonight with the understanding that the Gen 5 discs are interchangeable. Please advise if you think I am wrong...otherwise I will be out $160 :)

Thank you for the heads up...I was not planning to purchase from him but appreciate the info!!!

My input: I would only buy these DVDs from Toyota/Lexus. I have read about people bricking their units by trying to use a counterfeit DVD that they bought on eBay. It's just not worth the risk.

Just checked on the update for my Gen6 unit today, yup $160. The counter guy advised I wait a few more months for the 2017 DVD to be released.

IT WORKS!!!! The guys at the Lexus dealership told me it definitely would not work...but it does!!!

The code for the disc is PT219-GEN5W-16 (or PT219-GEN5E-16 for east of Mississippi) from your local Lexus dealership.

$160 but for me it is worth it.

Can describe the difference you've noticed, if any? My 2008 nav detail looks absolutely archaic...so curious what you note. Did you go from the original 08 disc?

Ditto!

While you're waiting for the info from @skyak on the differences, I'll relay my experience with updating the nav on my 100. The DVDs contained only data, not firmware for the system. The resolution, operation, and response remain the same. I updated my '04 every couple of years with OEM DVD data disks (Toyota releases the updates every October) so by the time I sold it, I had a '15 data disk in it. There were LOTs more roads and points of interest over the years (literally 1000's), but the I/O and screen res looked and worked just like it did in '04.[/USER]

Yes I went from the original 2007 disc. I have not left the driveway but I think the major difference is just roads / addresses / points of interest / etc. I will follow up if with any other changes. First thing I did was confirm that the recently opened Houston outer ring road (99) was on there, and it was.

Hi! I'm glad I found this thread. I'm wanting to update my 2013 navigation. Can you please link what exactly you purchased? Does it upgrade all of the software also? Do you know if there's a way to upgrade all the software?

The 2013 Nav can NOT be updated by the owner, it must be done at a dealer. Owner purchases a "coupon" for an upgrade that includes a serial number. The "coupon" is presented to the dealer Service Department who attach a model-specific dongle to the truck's USB port. The dongle interfaces with the dealer's TIS system where the purchased serial number is entered. The TIS system accesses update info over the internet and updates the Nav.

All in, it's about $275. I did it once, and saw no difference after the update except an updated software version number. If/when I need updated nave data, I use my outboard Garmin GPS or my iPhone 7+.

Thanks! Is there a way to update just the OS?
