am thinking might be time to change the gearbox oil!

97 HZJ75 troopie - 353'ks - gearbox is a bit noisy (actually i think its the transfer case but anyway..) just did a 600k trip in the old girl and noticed after extended cruising (110kmh ) for several hours it was hard to shift out of 5th gear and also hard to shift into other gears - frees up after a little while (guessing once its cooled..?) but am guessing i need to change the fluid to something lighter viscosity? (did say i was guessing!)
cheers

Get a GL4 rated oil for your gearbox. You can run the same thing in your transfercase.
GL4 is less harsh on your copper syncros.

Amsoil MTG.

There is a nylon bush on the end of the gearstick, costs about $10.When they begin to disintergrate or wear down they can make shifting difficult.
Easy DIY
Another cause could be worn out shift forks

yeah i done the bush thks Rosco - made a massive difference to removing the sloppyness in the stick - after 350k's am sure she is a little worn :-)

Did it fix the stiffness in the gear change?
