Maybe I missed something - but do you have power steering? If not, get that going quick - don't care how strong you are - it's nice.

Agree with consensus, with a twist: lockers, gears, FUEL INJECTION and then flex. I've been contemplating doing a rear 4 link - but my SOA is incredibly flexy it amazes me sometimes. Don't sweat the off camber stuff - I drove my 40 sideways yesterday and felt totally comfortable. Of course, if the right side sheetmetal could talk ... :D.

I have Saginaw PS> that was the first "project" I tackled after replacing the rusty sheet metal.

Front locker (w/ Longs), 4.7 Toybox, then suspension. The veterans on this thread are based a little more than on personal preference. I wouldn't fool with the diffs for gearing, unless you want to cruise at better RPM's on the hwy. Go with a doubler for many gearing choices offroad. Something an Orion or differential gears can't do for you.

How many Carrier pins have you seen sheared?

Land cruiser stuff only please.
2 from a 40, 1 from a 60 and 2 minitruck,

I have to wonder if everyone is talking about the same parts here - are you talking about the center pin - or the 4 little spring loaded pins that are in every lunchbox locker. If the latter - I've roasted 4 pins in a Lock Rite and know someone with an FJ40 and new Aussie that busted two last month.

If you're talking center pins - I want to see pics - I don't believe it? Tell me it ain't so - as I've broken so many parts that's something I can't imagine roasting?

Broken Center pin

This is what happened to the carrier when the center pin broke. I was running a lockright.

i dont have anypics on me ill try and find one or two, but its the same as the pic about really. in one of the minitrucks though, it has 488's so the thicker gears held the pin in the carrier just really sloppy

Hot damn - that just looks like pure suck!

With the lunchbox lockers the slop can be resolved by inspecting and installing newer or thicker thrust washers - I've gone thru a few sets of those in the past few years.

Now the bent pin that a Steve here in Florida had to struggle with to change a broken axle Saturday afternoon makes sense - it was out of a lock right. Guys huge and he had to work at it for an hour almost to get it out.

Yep, most likely poor setup or a failing pin before the lockright..
