I have an 87 fj60 with 175k miles. Some day the egine will go and I will need to put in a new one. Probably a 350. My question is should I put 4.11s in now. This is no longer a DD and I recently put 33s on. It is fun to drive except on hills. I would like to buy some 62 thirds and just put them in. Every time I bring this up with my dad he says I am foolish to put the money there and that I should save it for a new engine. He seems to think when I have a 350 in the current gears will work great. He thinks that 4.11s with a 350 will not be a good idea. Why, I dont know?

I am leaning towards the 4.11s and I want to put them in before this years hunting season. Will 4.11s be too much gears with a 350. I am no rock crawler but as I put more into my cruiser maybe I will turn into one. Either before the engine swap or during, I would also like to put in a 5 speed.(Just stating that in case it changes your answers)

welll 4.11s would help now...and i dont think it would be too much for a 350 and if ya think it is just put bigger tires on :)

Agreed. with your 33's & 4.11 gears it will put you back at about stock gearing. Before I went with 35's I had 33's and 4.11's and my speedo read almost dead on. It won't be a problem with the 350, especially because the 350 will rev higher then the 2F.

Because I have a turbo diesel I went with 4.11 cable lockers and 37" MTR's. I want around 2200 RPM at 70 mph. That is with an H55 five speed.
