Hey all. Any you guys up for a front-axle rebuild on my '91 FJ80? All the seals are dry and cracking, and its starting to leak.

Dealer wants an arm and a leg, and I'd much rather throw money in the direction of someone who knows Land Cruisers well and that would actually let me watch what's going on (and possibly help).

I'm not inept mechanically, but this job (https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=78276) is beyond my capabilities. I'm also renting right now, and there's no way I can do this out in the street. Let me know if you can help. I'm in Falls Church.

:beer:Jon

I am up in York PA and would be willing to lend my heated garage and tools. I have not done this job, but I would like also to watch/help to learn.

I would be happy to help you guys out. But believe me when I tell you you're gonna do more than watch.;)

Rob...awesome bro. Do you need yours done too?

Chris, where are you located and do you need yours done also? I was told to get the rebuild set from CruiserDan... any advice on this?

I'm in allentown, Pa. not too far from Rob. I did my one side and have the other to do. It's not a quick job. Would be hard pressed to get both yours and his done in a weekend but it is possible with enough help. Cleaning is the nasitest part. Dan is the man for the parts. Tell him what you want to do and he will rattle off the parts and numbers. A FSM would also be a good idea. I don't know how the torque specs differ from fj to the fzj.
You also need to determine if you want to replace the bearings and races while you are in there. To me that was the time consuming part. A repack and seals are not that big a deal.

If you do this in VA, I might be able to come out and lend a hand cleaning parts or whatever. Keep me in the loop.

Thanks guys, will call cruiserdan first of the week and see what all to get. that cold night Thursday killed my battery and/or my alternator (not sure if its the original). So my job tomorrow is to take care of that so I can at least drive it Monday.

Chris, do you need any more parts to finish your cruiser?

I have all the parts that I need. I just need it not to be so cold out so I can finish the job. My buddys garage isn't heated and the ds wasn't leaking as bad as the ps so I opted to wait till spring. Also my ps wheel wiggled when I had it in the air. That is why I replaced all the bearings and races.
