Gasket Sealant or no gasket sealant

I put the gasket couple of days ago, anyway I have the heater disconnected. I am having running hot issues with my 60. Tomorrow I'm removing the fan clutch and putting grease on it. If it doesn't work, I'll get the fan clutch replaced.

I effectively ran without a thermostat the last several months. The engine never got near the first tick on the gauge either. I would imagine though it would be a bit better to run with a thermostat than without.

A friend's 62 had the thermostat stuck open, and it was hard on oil, the heater didn't work well (obviously), and was getting poor mileage because of it.

You really do want a thermostat. Lack of a thermostat can cause the engine to wear faster, can cause the EFI to not meter fuel correctly, and can actually cause the engine to run too warm on a long drive on a long day.

Yeah, good point. I think I'll put some on just in case.

Like others said, make sure you don't do too much. It drives me bonkers when I see RTV all over the belts and small amounts floating in the radiator because someone thought too much was almost enough

I rebuilt an Olds 455 block back in the mid 80's using nothing but Indian head! Damn thing never leaked. The only issue was getting it off my fingers when it dried!
lol the damn water pump I put on the other day stuck without any bolts initially. I was floored and ask he bottle "where have you been all my life?"
