Finally got my rig back together from putting power steering, suspension, body bushings, some misc clean and paint etc etc. Been trying to figure out why in the heck my gas gauge is not working for a few hours now. Was working before starting my little project about 15 mo ago. Everything else works, I believe there was almost a full tank when I started working on it(I added fuel stabilizer) and have driven it since back together and seems to run just fine, just no nuttin from the fuel gauge. It does not even move a bit when I turn on the key. I found a couple of threads that didn't offer much help and the FSM is no help at all. All fuses are OK and I never to my knowledge disconnected any wires that would affect the fuel gauge. Not sure what to do at this point but ask the experts. YOU.
Thanks for any and all advice.

check your ground and also check your contacts to make sure they aren't corroded.

Hi All:

IIRC there are two (2) wires that connect at the actual fuel "sending unit" (i.e. the gizmo that measures fuel level.) To access these wiring connections one must remove the passenger-side seat, and the cover over the fuel tank.

Did you mess with the fuel tank at all during your project? Mess with the wiring loom that goes to the fuel tank?

Good luck!

Alan

OK all, thank you for your replies, but I am going to have to confess. After spending hours trying to diagnose my problem. My wife suggests that I stick something down the tank to make sure there is some gas. I'm sure you already guessed. No gas! I took it for 1/2 mile drive yesterday and am darn lucky I did not run out. That's what I get for relying on my memory. I now remember that I decided to use all the gas in case I decided to remove the gas tank. Put about 4 gallons in and it moved but barely towards the 'E'
Lesson learned ..never ever rely on my memory.
