FZJ80 Windshield Replacement - Best brands?

Been discussed before but just for sake of future searches, some of the National chains will tell you "glass is glass" when they want to install a POS cheapo windshield, but there is a difference as mentioned above. IME (twice, same 80) not-so-Safe-lite installed made in Chynna kerapp glass which was like looking through a piece of float glass you might find in an old house from the mid-1800's (wavy) big strain on the eyes. They also didn't seal it correctly and of course both of those windshields leaked. Finally fixed with OEM glass when it was still available, installed by an independent shop that did the glass work for some local new car dealers.

Only advice I can share is try to find a company that makes glass for OEM's as they won't tolerate cheapo optically poor glass that could be a safety or liability issue.

We had a windshield replaced in the late spring. I was pretty naive at the time, but we looked for a Toyota branded windshield and are told this is the only brand available currently:

I doubt I have the made in USA model:

Run, don’t walk from Safelite. Week 4 of dealing with a faulty install…..
That was our case - only install was a couple years ago leak emerged, bit of rust. The walked on warranty, shop found no sealant was used.

I have grown weary of shops that think very car is the same and that they know it all because they have a pile of Camry's they work on.

From the photo above; DOT 459 = Fuj ian Yan hua Glass Industry, Co., Ltd. (Manufactured in Chy nuh)

The same company has bought/built a few plants in the US; they make glass for major Auto companies around the world.

So I have been calling around glass places in Orange County California. Fuyao and Trival seem to be all that is available. One shop told me that Pilkington and PGW aren’t making windshields for the 80 anymore. One shop quoted me $25 more for a Trival windshield. Yesterday I had a guy at my house fixing a rock ding on my other car. He’s been doing ding repair for over 20 years. He said Fuyao used to be problematic, but his understanding is their quality and consistency has gotten better over the last five years. If anyone has any suggestion's for a shop that does replacements in the Orange County/North San Diego County area I’m open to suggestions. Otherwise this guy said to go with a shop in Mission Viejo.

Many mudders, including myself, highly recommend Alfredo’s autoglass in Corona. I had my 80 towed from San Diego up to Alfredo just to make sure the job was done right.

What glass did you get and are you happy with it?

I think your bigger issue is going to be how it is installed and do you plan to use new rubber molding.
The shop recommend to me locally assured me they would do it per Toyota specs. I have a brand new OEM gasket already and they said they would use that.

The FUYAO glass was all that was available in my area when I had mine done. I ordered an OEM Toyota gasket and had them use that for the install. I read through the manual on the install procedure and made sure they did it the right way when they installed it and I have not had any issues after about 3 years.

Even it's showing as available?
Yes. They will take your money, hold onto it for a couple weeks, then tell you it's no longer available. They earn money from your money while they have it.

The guy that liked my post, @OGBeno, is a guy that really knows Toyota parts.

Also, if you care to venture to the "Discontinued Parts" sticky, you can read up on all parts that are NLA, no matter who says they have them.
