I understand that reusing the K&N is a bad thing because of the oil coating the MAF. Ive never heard of a dirt contamination problem before.

the K&N filter material only catches the largest particles,I saw a Tacoma that has a lot of our local fine clay in the intake tube after the filter, it made regular trips to Telico and often wound up in with groups of trucks that kicked up a lot of dust on trail

the 80 will do better with its cintrifugal pre cleaner but I still prefer OEM paper filters, the OEM filter has much more surface area than the K&N

I'm going to buy a paper filter to switch out for off-roading in dusty conditions. Quick research on Google confirms what you are saying, but I am not usually driving in dusty conditions. For what it is worth, K&N filters with alot of mileage do filter better. But, of course, this is at the expense of its advantage which is increased air flow.

I am, however, interested in the performance results of the headers. Not being rich like Romer, I can't run out and buy a supercharger tomorrow, and I want a bigger boat. (dilemma - power for pulling or something to pull) Woops, just read the part about the K&N. Be sure to have your oil sampled by Balckstone occasionally. I had a K&N from the P.O. and my first sample was full of silicone (Dirt). Switched out the K&N, back to normal.

Uhh, what's the P.O.? Post office? :)

I inquired about a header that Castle Auto in Aussie Land makes and this is the response.
Hi David yes we can send these to you for $160.00aud, we didn't run the pair valve here in australia on this model. Have these in stock at present. Thanks Con ....
Looks to be high quality. How much is $160.00aud in US dollars?

Looks good. I wonder which set will create the best power gains for the FZJ80? I am sure they would both be an improvement, but the JDMs look more carefully designed. They both look like stainless steel.

160 AUD is about $120.

LX_treme, What is JDM asking for those headers?

The $120 would be for the shipping. Castle Auto lists the header at $350.

I don't even remember what I paid for mine. I do remember that the rest of the exhaust was more costly. I think I dropped just over $1000 on the entire exhaust.

where do I get a set ?

pipe dream eh?
damn those are nice.

nice job on the fabrication. You might as well join the turbo building group. your services could be used to help fabricate the down pipes for the turbo builds

Thank you. Except that I had help from a friend who had a lift, helped some with the design, and actually did the welding with his MIG welder. But, I did have the vision, provided input, and extra hands.

I will pass the compliments on to my buddy Kyle back in Ohio. If anybody needs the help of a welder/fabricator/mechanic in Columbus OH let me know.

I am interested as well.

Linky on the JDM headers please. What is the cost. Seems like lots of interest growing.

Guess Im gonna look at Downeys site but who all makes headers for the 91-92 ??
Is there any hidden power to unleash to justify the cost of a custom exhaust on a 91.... or spend the money elsewhere for other mods.

4.88 or 5.29 gears will give you more acceleration dollar for dollar especially with the older motors. I locked and lifted mine before I did the exhaust.
