Hey, so my sunroof leaks exactly on this transition as this other youtuber. Last year passenger only, now on drivers too. Has anyone else solved this track leak?

Not to sound like an ass, but if you really want to be completely rid of all your sun roof leaks. You can do what some other Mud members have done, they removed their sun roof, weld in a sheet metal panel, sand it, paint it, then no more sun roof leaks.

Seems a little drastic. I use that bad boy from time to time.

Not all sunroofs leak. There is a bunch of threads of this issue. With enough work, you can fix it.

Did you remove the headliner to see exactly where the leak is coming out of the sunroof pan? That would be the first step, it should be pretty obvious where the leak is coming from then. With the headliner out, pinch off the four corner drain tubes and pour water in the pan. Mark it, dry it out, seal it, double check. Ops check good!

Thanks guys, so I've been messing for the best part the day. I researched this type problem a lot and didn't find any help specifically. I found that right where you see that leak there is a joint in the plastic that is sealed or was sealed with a foam gasket (terrible design! I half expected a 'made in USA' stamp but nope) I removed the top screws and made just enough room separating with a pry bar to get a decent amount of sealant in there. If that doesn't fix it I'm getting a q-tip and painting the entire channel with flex seal or similar lol

Just remember at the youngest, and that would be a 1997 model year truck, your dealing with some sun roof parts that are made out of plastic, those parts are now almost 22 years old.

With trucks older then 1997 your looking at even older plastic parts. As more time goes by, those part will continue to dry out, and get brittle, especially if you live anywhere near the desert southwest.

If you take the time to research how expensive those sun roof parts are to replace, that is the one's that are still currently available, you might rethink your use of your sun roof. Plus the pain it can be to repair.

My advice if you really like using your sun roof, you might want to think about buying a complete sun roof unit out of a truck being parted out.

Look for one being parted out back east, their plastic, and interior parts always seem to be in much better shape then from trucks out west. That way you'll have a source of spare parts to fix your sun roof when it breaks.

If your truck is a 91 to 94 you'll want to be real careful working on this head liner, due to the fact it's not a 1 piece head liner like the 95 to 97 models, making it fragile, and difficult to remove. One more thing, if you happen to damage your head liner while removing it, you can't get a replaced from the dealership, it seems that they have now all been discontinued by Toyota.

Don’t be scared. Fill it up.

Technical difficulties with iPhone...I took some pictures of what I found, I forgot how to upload them...

If you do a routine maintenance/ roto-rooter the front drains to keep pollen (worse than mud IMO) - you can cheat never doing the rear drains.

I love having the roof for venting humidity in the tilt, or flat open in the spring thru autumn for air - so I’m far from one of those “just RTV/ weld it shut” -guys.

We have a ton of threads for cleaning the drain tubes, many have me commenting in them when you search it.

It’ll be an easy fix & as long as you do it every few years, it’s a non-issue.

I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be the windshield gasket was bad. This might help. Look at this post for the part #'.

Hi @Rifleman,

I'm facing some leaks on both driver and passenger sides and just cleaned both drains on the front with a wire. I also checked the bottom weld pinches and rocker drain rubber caps to see if water was accumulating there. Nothing there..... No leaks through the headliner either although i'll double check the "inner gutters" where the interior liners and the handle on the A pillar are installed.

What specific sunroof plastic parts are you referring to? The truck i'm working on is a 97 LX450 and its overall condition is fair, no rust. The sunroof parts seem to be in good shape. However, i'm thinking about checking the screws pointed on this thread and perhaps seal them.
