Hi everyone

I decided to to buy a new 70 series land cruiser.

we all know that 1GR engines produce more horse power than FZ engines but we

also know that they have lower torque than the FZ. So which is better ?

P.S

I,m from Saudi Arabia and sometimes I climb very high hills.

1FZ-FE is better in my mind, it is the traditional straight six cylinder engine. There are more parts for it around the GCC then anywhere else, you can modify and upgrade it to endless possibilities and its easier to maintain. I trust that engine to get me through the empty quarter. Torque wins races, Hp is for show-offs.

Generally the older 1FZ FE is going to be easier to work on than a V6.

But do you have choice ,I thought the old 6 was discontinued?

I'd go with the FZ
I've had 2 FZJ80s
I've had/driven other straight 6 twin cams, as well as v6's
Never liked the v6's

I really liked the 1gr in our 08 taco 6spd. Lots of power and torque. They are very reliable and easy to work on.

actually they are discontinued.

if the 1GR is not as reliable as the FZ then I will buy a used land cruiser.

Thanks allot guys, I really appreciate your comments.

have to explain... my FZ's were late-model 80's that were carbeurated, i really liked the simplicity
good luck to you!

You would need to compare new with dealer warranty against a used engine.
I doubt that reliabilty of the V6 would be a concern if it was well looked after.
My brother has 250000klms on his V6 Prado Grande and he says its fine.

You added this bit so I assume it is important - if you meant dunes as opposed to just hills, then go with the 1GR - when mated to the auto box as found in the Prado it kills any stock FZJ 105/FZJ 79 /UZJ 100 in the real large dunes, 6 days a week and twice on Sundays

you are right, I'm talking about dunes.

I saw a clip on youtube, it's actually a hill climbing race between a new

and old 70 series land cruiser, in the beginning the new one has the favor but

the moment they reach the top of the hill the old one wins.
