i have a fusible link that i want to repair/replace. I have a JDM 1987 BJ71 and need to replace the fusible link that is a couple inches off the battery between it and the glow plug relay. What have y’all done to repair these or what have y’all used as a replacement ? I’ve been digging for Toyota replacements without much luck.

Very interesting to me as mine just blew out yesterday.
I consulted the wiring diagram(s) and found it slightly confusing.
The black wire in my truck, which attached to the now-burnt fusible link) is the largest diameter. This does not seem to be what the diagram shows. I plan to solder in a new generic link if i can nail down the correct diameter/amperage/wire gauge.

Searcing my own posts from the past i see I used an orange fusible link from NAPA.
I have no idea why I thought that was the correct size.
Maybe it was too small as it has blown out.

I think I used 82627-60020 on my HJ75 but it looks like it may be out of stock now. I believe I had to cut and rewire the plug to work on my application. Some people still have it listed online, $15-20.

Yeah, I think I would have to rewire too. This is a single wire. Looks like these are still available though

Interested in what you find out. Is yours 12v or 24v? Or does that matter? I’m looking at future replacement options for the fusible link on my 24v ‘86 HJ60.

What numbers/letters are printed on the outside of the junction block that you are holding in the picture in the OP? Most Toyota junction blocks for Fusible Links have the wire diameter (in mm²) and wire color (using the standard Toyota EWD wire color codes) printed on the outside.

If your fusible link wire that has burned up is black, my guess is that you'll see 1.25B printed on the block.

If so, that is a 1.25mm² fusible link wire, which equates to 16ga fusible link.

Does 90982-08232 look to be the right part number for your BJ71 fusible link?

Amayama and MegaZip both appear to have them for < $10 plus shipping from Japan.

Honestly, I keep Reading that the part you named is what I need But it doesn’t look like the part on my LC. I live Near Dallas but am working in Houston this week and won’t have the truck in front of me until Friday evening.

Im not sure on the size, but I found fusible links at the local hardware store, and used this to rewire similar ones off the battery on my bj60. Has worked fine the last few months, and was cheap and easy. Was in the electrical section where they have the miscellaneous wires and adapters. Something like the below. I just matched the gauge to mine, they were precut in short sections, Im sure one could be more specific, but has worked fine. hope that helps.

Assuming that the specs are printed on the junction block, you can do what @samwise suggests and simply replace them by making your own. The later model 60- and 70-series fusible links are much designed well to be easily replaceable: that's part of the point of the fusible link, a weak link that's cheap and easy to replace that helps prevent a fire and a very expensive and very dangerous fire hazard in the engine bay.

OEM are pretty cheap, though, and I've found that shipping from Japan from Amayama and from MegaZip has been pretty reasonable.

Here is a pic of my melted link. You can make out the cube-shaped plastic cover for the junction of the ring connectors.
I stripped insulation from the remains and measured with calipers.
Seems to be 16 gauge.

I wanted To follow up with what I did I used The fusible link in this pic from Napa. I’m going to pick up a few extra to keep on me. Had the exact same size eye connector as the Toyota one. I just Replaced the old one and used the factory connecting piece. it fixed the issue.
