can you run full hydro steer from a power steering box with out the pitman arm say you tap the box like hydro assist but just run it like full hydro

actually, I wonder.....what WOULD happen if you locked the sector shaft down, and applied pressure left/right....would the appropriate valve open??

Return to center would be non-existent, and there would be a PILE of other oddities to make it impossible to drive, but I see zero reason why removing the drag link and locking/bolting the pitman to the frame wouldn't force the steering box to act like a valve.....

may have to test this when I get my rig re-assembled in Jan....hhhmmmm

Bad idea...

You would turn the wheel slightly to the left and the ram would extend fully.

Same to the right..

Unless you wanted to ALWAYS make U turns it won't work ;)

actually, the only time the ram would receive pressure is if there is resistance on the pitman, thus putting pressure thru the spool valve and to the ram....

if you disconnect the drag link and turn the wheel, the ram doesn't move until resistence is felt ie: the pitman is at full swing....

yes, it would suck....lol

Somebody do it and catch it on video...I wanna watch.

HA HA yeah i actually put a bit of thought into it now,If you turn the wheel slightly the ram would keep going till it ran out of pressure on flat ground, then on the trail under pressure it wan`t really turn intill its not under pressure then it will turn heaps,Yeah???

it just sounds like a bad idea!

Then you could replace the steering wheel with a joystick.. :D

The steering wheel wouldn't really turn, you would attempt to turn left and it would apply pressure to the sector shaft and the ram would extend. Same for righ. It would essentially be like steering with a joystick that does not have return to center with the one exception being that the wheel wouldn't really move except for the amount of play in the system.
